ok...so I'm not enitrely sure it's a good idea to share this, but I don't know... so here goes.

I called the admissions office to let them know I'd be in the area. So the guy says he'll make a note in my file and then says, fyi, all of our interviews are pretty much set up for the rest of the year. 😱 I'm not sure if this means they made all their offers, or maybe they made most and there are a only few left. I really hope I misunderstood. 🙁

I'm wondering if anyone else has talked to the admissions office or heard something similar.

PS I don't know if this is for the MSTP or MD-only he wasn't super clear and I was to shocked to ask for clarification. But I don't recommend blurting this out in the Pre-allo forum...they seem like an excitable bunch. Don't want to cause a panic.

Wow, I really hope that isn't true. It wouldn't really be fair to me, since they only just sent me the secondary about a week ago (!). If they're going to take 2+ months to get me the secondary app and force me to apply later in the cycle, they should at least keep a few spots left open so that it's not a complete waste of my time (& money).

My guess, though, is that there are still a decent number of interview spots in Jan & Feb. Most schools aren't done assigning interviews (just in the last week I've gotten invites for November), and if anything UCSF should be on the later side since their secondary screening process causes people to complete much later.

If you talked to a guy, then you most likely have called the MD admissions office. You can call the MSTP office, they'll have more accurate info regarding MSTP interviews. Since the MD interviews continue all the way into March, having the rest of 2009 booked is not a problem. However, MSTP interviews only extend into early Feb. From past experience, I think they usually stop offering interviews sometime in late December/early January.

I called number on the MSTP website for the admissions office, but if no one was there (lunchtime) maybe it got pushed through to the MD office. You also raise a good point, he said year so that could be through 2009 rather than application year, which is what I thought.

Maybe I'll call again for clarification. Keep hope alive!:xf:

Not sure about UCSF specifically but it seemed to me like many places are winding down...I haven't heard from anywhere in a while. I actually thought that if I hadn't gotten an interview somewhere by now I probably wasn't going to. Am I wrong about that?

It's still early. There are definitely MSTPs that don't offer interviews on a rolling basis and will issue interviews in one large bolus, often in November / December for January slots.

Correct me if Im wrong but I dont think some schools have even offered any interviews yet. I havent gotten any indication that UNC, UC Irvine, or UC Davis have even started. Also, Im pretty sure Oregon and Emory just started now.

I don't think the MSTP office phone transfers calls to the MD office...if no one's there you just leave a message.

UCI and Davis are (in)famous for being late, offering interviews in March/April. Most other MSTPs however, often fill their interview slots by January.

Last night I told my mom that it seemed like I'd heard from all the places I was likely to hear from and she was like, what happened to Harvard and Hopkins? And then she asked me what kind of people were getting in. So I showed her SDN and linked her to a couple of people's MDApps profiles.

I really hope she doesn't get on and see this because then she's going to start being disappointed all over again. Yes, I am asian (south Indian). But that said, she's really the most awesome and supportive mom ever. In fact, she started coming up with reasons to blow people off to make me feel better about not getting interviews at Harvard/Hopkins (like she saw Jeron's profile and was like, "oh, well he's old, if you had that many years to do research you would get an interview at Harvard too!")

Ditto. I sent in fairly early for UCSF and just got a secondary maybe 2 weeks ago. Since UCSF seems to be a fairly picky one before sending a secondary anyway, I doubt that the MSTP would send out secondaries to folks they think don't have a chance at interviewing.

Just received Secondary Complete Notification today:

I definitely hope this isn't true since I haven't received any Cali interviews.

Checkout my MDapps, your GPA is way over my head (which is probably why I was rejected by Harvard's MSTP, but invited to interview for MD). You still have hope!

This could just be a moment of despair/cynicism, but the fact that UCSF is still offering secondaries doesn't mean they're still offering MSTP interviews. The forward good candidates to the Med School, so that could be what they're doing (an interview for UCSF med is still cool). I was hoping somebody would be like, "oooh I got an invite today!!" but alas no. 🙁 Has anyone called them? I'm not to keen to call again since I called once, they may think I'm a crazie. :scared:

YAY!! Just got UCSF interview invite! So this would prove that info I got before was incorrect! Best of luck to everybody!

Congrats neuro, and thanks for the update. I'm in the same boat. Submitted secondary almost 6 weeks ago and not even verification yet. Hopefully I'll hear something soon. What's with UCSF's application process anyway? They're the only school I applied to that still has a paper application, and one of two that doesn't take payments by credit card. What gives? And they're really slow. But, I guess perhaps they make the application process difficult to weed out people who aren't serious about the school...maybe? Who knows. Anyways, congrats again.

Give them a call? I called to ask about my application status and was invited for an interview the next day : )! magic!

I emailed them, and they said they'll be finished giving interviews on January 15th. Good luck!
