hi guys, just wanted to know whether uk clinical anesthetic experience of 2 and 1/2 years will be of any advantage to get into residency(like usce). please respond.

I don't know the deal with anesthetics but I know MRCP will give you a year off internal medicine training (ie: 2yrs instead of 3yrs) if the program director agrees. A quick look over the regs suggests however you won't get time off your US Anes training for SHO/Reg jobs in Anaes:

but that is not to say that such training won't make you a more attractive candidate for 1st year positions (1+3 yrs training program for Anes. in US as I'm sure you know)

Anecdotally, I found that University/East Coast affiliated programs were more impressed with UK clinical experience than Community/Midwestern,Southern programs (which can be slightly insular- ?less international exposure).

Centers that are more research based also *seem* to be more interested in UK trained docs (? b/c of collaborations with UK/ more familiar with the literature etc).

Hope this helps. If you have done a couple of years of medicine SHO jobs in UK or have MRCP then there are a couple of sneaky backdoor options open to you - happy to discuss those...

Good luck (think you are mad to be leaving UK though!)

Above is pretty accurate from what I have seen. Unless you are already a world expert, I think the previous experience does not cut down your re-training time. But you have the opportunity to use your previous experience to an advantage when applying for residency alongside other US applicants. Meaning that you can write about it in your personal statement, solicit letters of recommendation from people you have worked with in the field, and talk about it during your interviews.
