Is using a 90 with higher slit lamp mag same as a 78/60?

is using a 90 lens and increasing the slit lamp mag the same as just using a 78/60 with the lowest mag on a slit lamp.

Not sure, you could calculate it out, but the field is higher on 90 vs 78 for equivalent SL mag. you can increase SL mag to increase mag for either, I had a 78 up to 25 the other day on a nerve and it was awesome 🙂

Really wanna try a super 66 too.

You can get similar mag with a 90D and changing the mag on the slit lamp compared to a 78 or 60D with a lower mag. While you can get the net man to be similar, remember you will be limited by other factors such as quality of the optical system, the mov't of your hand, etc. etc.

The 90 has much greater real world significance because you can accurately assess an undilated fundus a whole lot more easily than with a 78.

obviously i know i can get the same mag but i meant in terms of quality of image is there really any difference.

like looking through with a 90 on higher mag, is that quality wise the same as a 78 on lower mag.

In this same vein, I'm going to buy either a super 66 or a 78 in the near future and wanted to get current doctors' feedback on which they prefer. I know the stats are VERY similar and when I tried both, I didn't notice a TON of difference for the price difference for the super 66. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks 🙂

I wouldn't get either. I have a 78 and it collects dust. A 90 is great. A Volk Digital Wide Field lens is like a 90 but better.

Tried that one and loved it too. Hate the 90 now that I tried the DWF!!

The image doesn't look quite the same.

The 78D probably is my favorite, and most-used, lens. The 60D also is excellent.
