Will knowing UWorld concepts cold while only memorizing non overlapping material in FA enough to break a 240? I'm asking because my goal right now is to finish UsmleRx before starting dedicated with the goal of getting the concepts down before starting Uworld. Or should I just start Uworld now and go through it as many times as I can and just memorize the rest thats not in it? It seems like Rx would take a lot longer than it should be to get through FA. My Step 1 is in June.

uworld is not all you need to know. it has a lot of high yield and vital concepts, but it doesn't have everything. you still need to look at pathoma and first aid pretty closely.

if i were you, i would start uworld immediately. there's so much content in it and it's hard to really absorb it during dedicated study time. you don't have to do it twice, but some people find that useful to help them learn the content better.

So do you think Bro's deck is good enough as a first pass of FA?

depends how much time you have. if you have a whole semester, i think it's a great investment of time as you ensure that you're actively retaining first aid as you go through his pathology decks and non-path/non-pharm decks (i don't recommend the pharm deck)

My way of reading first aid during step 1 prep was: when i got a uworld question right or wrong, i would read/study that corresponding part of first aid, read the UW explanation (every word, even wrong answer choices), and then write any testable details from UW into the corresponding parts of FA. That, combined with Bro's deck, was my way of learning FA. i still think doing bro's deck by itself is very useful, but if your time is limited, then you should really focus on his pathology decks, which combines FA+Pathoma+pertinent Robbins details

If you memorized every word of uworld, or every word of first aid, and knew either one 100% cold you would get a monstrous score. Much easier said than done, and your best bet is still FA to consolidate your info.

But if you can't apply what you have memorized then you might not even pass since Step 1 is no longer a regurgitation of facts or knowledge.

Correct. Practice questions test your ability to apply your knowledge. You need to have the correct content in your head to start testing your application. You can get that via any of the reading sources described on the forum.

I assume that most people taking step have passed two years of med school and are able to answer a test question. If you know every fact in uworld, you will get a great score, barring absolutely godawful test taking skills. Kind of a moot point though since knowing every fact in uworld would be impossible.
