I was just looking at the required books for my upcoming class and for my Human Physiology class we have
Vander's Human Physiology: The Mechanisms of Body Function, 13th Edition

Is this book any good? Were there any parts that you felt were lacking? Should I get another book to accompany this as a resource?

I used Vander's in my physio class and felt it was adequate.

Well, I was planning to maybe self study a couple weeks before the class starts. Is the book decent enough for me to learn it on my own?

I didn't have that particular edition of Vander, I think I had 10 or 11 maybe? It was really detailed and I mostly self studied because I didn't go to class. I got an A- so I think it served its purpose well for me. Although enjoy your summer while you can, don't spend too much time getting ahead.

I'm glad that it's detailed enough to study from 🙂 I won't study too much probably just 2 chapters, so I'm not too overwhelmed once the course starts.

You can skip the first couple of chapters, they're just basic chemistry and biology review.

YES, one of my absolutely favorite books ever. Also my favorite professor in the world co-authored it and he's one of the most intelligent and awesome people ever 🙂. Ok maybe I sound quite biased, but I actually enjoyed reading the book for my classes and they have wonderful diagrams and examples.

My professor used Vanders for one of the semesters of my Bio course and I thought it was great. I did super well on the MCAT Bio section, but I attribute that more to the professor than the book.

That's good to know! I checked out their website and they had a sample chapter. It looked very detailed, and had a lot of diagrams.
Seems like a legit textbook.
