I was reading on the western dental school in California that you send in the secondary application in with your aadsas. Are there any other schools that do this or do most send you a secondary after they've reviewed your primary application.

There were a handful of schools that I applied to where I had to send my secondary at the same time of AADSAS. I know Ohio State was one of them, but I can't remember the others. Get the ADEA book.. it says when to send in secondaries

Check out this pdf link. It is a list of all the dental schools that use aadsas and their respective secondary application information. Just search for your school of interest and it will tell you when and what to submit and to where. Hope this helps and good luck. I would use it to kind of plan and see how much money your going to be sending out to schools so you can start saving. GOOD LUCK!!

P.S. Granted this was for 2010, but I doubt the 2011 will change too much. Once AADSAS opens up you can access the 2011 version.

hey can you guys provide more info on western?

So when we apply on June 3rd, we also have to submit the secondary for Western U??? What if we need more time to think about what to write?

You don't have to send it simultaneously. The school won't complete your file until they receive your secondary fee/app, but they will also not reject you as long as you send it in an appropriate time (couple months). Considering how there is a delay between the day you send your app to AADSAS and the day AADSAS actually mails your application to school, you can delay payment of secondary fees if you're short on money after paying for AADSAS, DAT fees, etc. Just make sure you pay for it (like a month later). I do, however, will tell you that you can get an interview at USC even if you don't pay your secondary. By that time, I had an acceptance so I withdrew from them. I only know of USC for such example.

What do they mean by DAT sending scores? Isn't the DENTPIN enough?

Previously when taking the DAT you had to request that your scores be sent out to the schools that you were applying to. With DENTPIN I have no idea how that works so I can't elaborate. Maybe someone else on the forum can. Just make sure to find the 2011 supplemental information when the cycle opens up later this week.

Will that be on their website or on the AADSAS website? Does anyone know the questions/format?

Well, the sooner you submit your secondary application, the sooner you will hear back from schools regarding interviews. Schools that require secondaries will only consider your application complete when you turn in your secondary along with the application fee. Some schools won't give you a secondary until they have received your application (to list a few: Nova, Midwestern, ASDOH), whereas other schools have their secondary applications on their web page (to list a few: WesternU and Penn). Correct me if I'm wrong... it's been awhile.

Oh yeah, I know UCSF will only give you a secondary if you meet their minimum DAT requirements. Best of luck.

No, ADDSAS doesn't have any secondaries. You need to go to individual schools for their own secondaries (if they post any)

USC - secondary is given along with with interview invite via email. It was about five pages long with multiple questions. The response was about a paragraph long for each question. You will have to bring it with you on the day of interview along with a photograph. Questions included personal/family history, research background, ECs....

Western - it should be available on their website; submit it asap because your app will not be considered complete until you turn that in

Loma Linda - secondary is given through their web portal with certain time frame (I believe it was 3-4 weeks). Anyway questions encompass - religious preference, morality/good character questions, academic questions, personal/family questions....

UNLV - found on their website; submit asap

UCSF - given via email; there were about six questions regarding personal challenge, community service, why UCSF, dental experience, etc...

Penn - found on their website; submit asap

NYU - I believe their secondary was a short form that you complete during the interview day

Harvard - given via email along with interview invite
