Dear all, 🙂
I know that we all want to practice dentistry in USA, and it seemed to me that most people here are trying to get into a DMD program.
Is there other options that we FTD can practice dentistry in USA?

I know many advanced postgraduate programs do not require the applicants to have a US DMD degree. So, is it an option that we get specialty training in the states, and find a job in an university after graduation and then practice under the university licence?

And is it possible that you can enroll into the DMD program in the university you work for and get DMD degree after some years of sevice? Or, is it possible that you can work as a faculty in a university and at the same time a part-time student in the DMD program? Anybody have any idea about this? Thanks a lot for any information.

If you become faaculty menber after, Postgrad degree you may eb elegible to work with the school, but that will depends on the h-1 elegitibility and options, if you later on life wnats to get your DMD, you have to go back to be a full time student, no special recomendation s of any sort. Most opf the Faculty international students go back to get your DMD because is more flexibility and money.

thanks odontopunk, do you mean that in oder to get DMD, a dental school faculty must quit his job at the university and become a full-time student in dental school? Is it impossible that he can be dental school faculty and part-time student at the same time? or, is it impossible that the dental shcool he works can give him a DMD degree after some years of sevice at the dental school. can you tell me in detail how it works?

any one can provide any information about pros and cons the 2 options (specialty training- dental school faculty and DMD - Private pracitice) ? to make it easier , i have a list below, hope i can get some information from you. thanks a lot!

1. if i need visa to go to USA, which program is easier to get F1 visa? i mean, is it more difficult to explain to the visa officer that you won't stay in the states after graduation with the admission of DMD program? because the purpus of this program is to get the US licence and practice there.
2. after graduation, which one is easier to find a job, and which one is easier to get H1b
3. take into consideration the tuition and time you might spend for a specialty training program or the DMD program, and the money you can earn after graduation, which one is more favorable?
4. which job is easier ? dental school faculty or private practice
5. which one has a better career perspective?
6. any other aspect that you may compare the 2 options
many thanks in advance for any input!

If you just want to practice dentistry you can do it as faculty. In some dental schools you can start working as an assistant professor withouth holding a DDS or DMD. Just understand you will never be able to practice dentistry in a private dental office.

After a few years if you are recognized by the faculty from the dental school you are working for, the may let you in as a dental student but is not a guarantee.

I'll sugest for you to check with the department of health of the state you are resident, and see if they have volunteer openings for FTD in your area. You may not receive money for your work but you will practice dentistry
