Okay, I need help about what I should do about this issue that is coming up at work. My home CVS store is 15 miles away from my house, and I work there Friday nights and Saturday nights.

I found out that Monday and Wednesday nights should be clear for me if I am continuing my bachelor's work at LIU and I have been looking for more hours.

So I started asking around at other CVS stores. I have been scouting this one CVS store that is a 5 minute walk from my house for months because the price of gasoline has gotten ridiculous, and I can't really afford it, and I'm tired of asking my parents for money for it.

Of course, that store didn't need hours and was over-staffed. Positions have opened up now because the main full-time guy left and they called me up to work Monday nights for them and I pretty much agreed.

I did all of this without informing the pharmacy manager at my home store. Now, he needs someone Monday nights and wants me to work those hours.

He claims that I always ask for more hours but when he offers them to me I don't take them. The problem is, he offers me the hours when its not convenient for me. Like last Saturday, he offered me hours for Tuesday 9/2, when I had already accepted hours at the store near my house.

Wednesday, he called me up while I was in Brooklyn and asked me if I wanted to work that night, but I had to go to court for a traffic ticket that night.

He told me that he's going to contact the district manager about the issue and I bet that he is going to think that there is some personal issue, when the only issue for me is about how it will be convenient for me.

This is the difference between me working at my home store from 4PM-10PM, compared to me working at the store near my house from 4PM-10PM.

Home Store -

Leave School 12PM-1PM
Get Home Around 2:30PM
Leave for work by 3:15PM.
Waste Gas
Get Home around 10:30PM

Store near my house -

Leave School 12PM-2PM(More time to hang out)
Get Home around 3:15
Leave for work 3:50PM
Get Home 10:05PM
Don't Waste Gas

Not to mention, I can actually go home and relax during my breaks instead of just sitting around idling in the car or having to buy food outside. Also, the CVS near my house is in a rather wealthier neighborhood, thus there is less bitching and moaning from patients about the price they are paying on medications.

Really, what should I do? What I'm afraid of is this turning into a big fight and me having to leave that store all together. There are already issues about me taking days off whenever I wanna go play paintball or hang out, of course I find coverage, but the complaint is that most of the time, the coverage I find is not as experienced at drop-off.

Is it possible for you to just transfer so you wont even have to worry about the CVS that is far away from you?

See if the CVS that is close to your house can give your fri nights and sat nights, if so I would just transfer.

You can't get into trouble for wanting to transfer!!

&& I'm so mad that you get breaks, at my CVS we do not get breaks at all! We have to eat our food standing up and if a customer comes we have to stop eating lol

Well, usually I don't take breaks because it gets busy, but lately the front store manager has been getting on the pharmacy staff's case about taking the required 30 minute unpaid and 15 minute paid breaks. We were told that if we don't take the breaks, we get written up.

I mean, the other thing is that my current home store, was not my first CVS. I worked in another store, and came to my current home store to get Friday nights.

sounds like there is a shortage of techs in your area.

I don't think there is anything you can do about this matter. The managers for both stores will have to come to a conclusion on where you will be working on Fridays. In my opinion, you should stay at your home store. This is where you are assigned and you should help the crew there.

dude, I had that same exact problem! There is a walgreens pharmacy about 1.5 miles from my house. I live in a really good neighborhood. I could bike ride there. But, there are never hiring! The only ones are hiring are north of my house and closer to Downtown Denver. The neighborhood up north are bad and stores are always busy. I still didn't get my PTCE results yet so, maybe I will try to apply again at the walgreens and safeway. Anyone have experience with safeway/kings soopers/walgreens/walmart? Is there a cvs pharmacy in colorado?

Fridays? Seems to be a misread somewhere in there. I'm going to be staying at my home store for the original assigned hours (Friday night, Saturday, but Monday night is the issue.

The general problem in our area is that we have too many interns. Interns cause trouble because they can't work on Mondays-Fridays (DAYTIME) during the school year.

There is a shortage of technicians in the sense that, there is a shortage of people who want to work full time as a pharmacy technician.

I mean, the issue that I have on Mondays is that I don't want to spend more money on gasoline, and I don't want to continue to increase the mileage on my car (leased) at the rate that I've been going, 36,000 Miles in 31 months. I have 3,000 miles left before the lease sends, and 8 months to go...

You should definitely take the job closer to your home. Just like you mentioned, this way you get more time to hang out with people, don't waste gas and will have a much more relaxed schedule.

I understand there is a problem about this pharmacy manager who's going to contact the district manager about this issue. I wouldn't worry too much about it since you have a legitimate excuse of convenient timing. Even though the pharmacy manager doesn't pick up on it now he will eventually understand.

you're right. I misread; I was referring to your "Monday dilemma"

It does sound like the easier thing to do is to stay close to home and if that's what you want then go for it; but do explain your situation to your managers.

Regardless of what you decide to do; try not to burn bridges because pharmacy is a small world. You never know when you'll need their help and networking in the future.

good luck🙂

i say quit and work for walgreens.

I can get you a job here in Texas.

Well, the stores are in different districts. Ended up speaking to both district managers who said that my home store has dibs on me.

Now I feel bad because I was going to the store near my house like every month for the last year asking for hours, and when they finally offer me hours, I have to turn them down.

My boss says that he understands that I asked the other store first, but that I should have informed him of this.

Other than that, he said that it wouldn't have been a problem if I was splitting time between two different companies.

Both stores want you. You should ask for a transfer.

I dont understand why dont u just work at both stores? Keep the mondays at the store near your house and go to the other store on the weekends. If the store near you opens up more hours, just inform the other pharmacy manager that you will be switching permanently.

And as for your current manager giving you hours at wrong times, just let him/her know that you appreciate what they can do for you but you think its best if you close up availability on mondays for them so that you can work at the other store.

Just my opinion.

Are you looking for letters of req? Because at your old pharmacy you've already built a relationship w/ the pharmacists so it might be a disadvantage to switch.

BUT gas prices do suck and it is way more convenient to work 5 mins away. Plus, your manager seems like a tool. Just explain to him or her your exact situation-- that between the stress of work and school, you had to pick the option best fit your needs. It's nothing person, just business-- any reasonable person would understand that.

OFF TOPIC: how do you like working at CVS? I don't know if you've heard of CVS's hostile take over of the Longs Pharmacy chain on the west coast but I'm so not looking forward to the change. I work at Longs and we have awesome benefits, even better discounts, and we're not really under the micropscope from corporate as one might expect from a big chain. I've been hearing some terrible stuff about CVS, hope none of it is true...
