It only took 8 weeks to forget all of MS1!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That's funny, cuz I was just talking to a friend about that. Grr . . .

I feel the same way. I don't think the purpose of M1 is to actually remeber everyting though. We'll relearn physio and anatomy as they apply to path, for example.

No doubt studying for boards is gonna be a bitch. Let's try to enjoy life untill then.

I was rounding (and shadowing) on CCU last week, not only did I forget quite a bit from my MSI, but I can't imagine learning all these drugs and factoids...and retaining them.

I'll try...they say it will come with time.

I still have over a month until MSII.

It took less than 8 weeks for me. I think anatomy and biochemistry were MIA by about February. I think after about 3-4 weeks of summer Neuro was a goner, too. I did an elective FP clerkship that my school offers to M1's and I felt like a spaz the entire time... I watched an OB/GYN repair an episiotomy after the FP I was with delivered a baby and he's all asking me what this muscle is and by what process synthetic sutures degrade and I'm just like... maybe I can still get into hair school.

Haha. That's how I felt during my rotation in internal medicine this summer for my externship. I was "pimped" about the functions of the liver while we were doing rounds b/c we had a patient with liver failure due to his chronic alcoholism. I sounded like such a dumb ass 'cuz I couldn't remember any of the phys or biochem involved in liver processes!

8 weeks ? Damn, someone's got a phenomenal memory. It took me like 2 weeks. I still remember some stuff, but it's probably less than 20 % of what I've learned through the year. Getting pimped by residents and attendings is kind of frustrating, since I know this stuff but I forgot it. Oh well...

I forgot everything within a few weeks after finals! We just started our second year, so hopefully these new classes don't expect us to remember everything from first year. Are you guys planning to review before 2nd year starts?

Im not sure about weeks but I think for me it was all gone right about the time I cracked the 12th beer. To the OP...no worries, I think everyone feels like this. You know a lot more than you think you do. I personally feel like I get dumber every year but I'm pretty sure thats not possible.

Well I usually started forgetting stuff right after I took the test for it, so by the end of the year all I had in my head was Neuro and some Endocrinology. Needless to say it didn't take me long to forget those two. The only thing I'm a still a bit fresh on is genetics since I'm working in a lab this summer.

This is a common frustration. Just make sure you really understood it the first time and it will come back quickly.
