I am from California and will be in the NY area, do people think it is okay to send Boston schools and in the area email? Transcontinental flights are so much more expensive than a bus so I thought it might be a good idea...

Boston is kinda far from NY area. I would say you're ITA for philly, NJ, Connecticut but not Massachusetts.

Ultimately, its for you to save money. So if you think it'll be cheaper to buy the Amtrak or bus from NYC to Boston then go for it. ITAs are meant to help you save money, not game the system for IIs.
