Well I think my days of going for the ol MD are all over now, I have had some bad semesters on the transcript, and I think it's time for me to start something else.

I kept fighting for a long time for this dream, but I don't think I have the brains to go on anymore...

Anyway, for those of you who are still on the fence, DON'T GIVE UP YET!! You only get one shot in this lifetime, so don't waste your talent if you got it!

Right now, it's looking like the military for me, which is the last thing I want to do, but I won't be able to find a job that will help pay off those student loans, so I have no choice really... I'm quite dissapointed actually, the military is going to suck, but like I said I have no choice...

Pretty bad my friend, a couple of really bad semesters, science GPA is horrendous, and I am tens of thousands of dollars in debt... overall, there is really no chance anymore.. now I am going to be stuck in the worthless military making crap money and putting my life on the line 24/7, they better pay me good lol

It's never so bad that getting shot at is your best option...
That being said, a stint in the military may not be as bad as it sounds, largely for the following reasons:

1. Most jobs in the military don't involve ducking and covering. Many are even applicable to the healthcare field. For example, one of my buddies just made it through airborne training and is now a medic. Everybody treats him like an MD, and he spends his days saving lives. Granted, you probably won't end up doing something crazy like that, but you might wind up with a gig that ends up boosting your career. Assuming you graduated from UG and make it through OCS, you enter as an Officer. Look into the AF and Navy to stay out of harm's way.

2. Med schools appreciate life experience, and some look quite favorably upon military service as it shows dedication.

3. The military has a CC system that offers some pre-reqs. It's less challenging academically, and will get you where you want to go.

4. "Taking a breather" from academia is a great way to alleviate the fatigue that comes with pre-med life. Not cutting it? Whatever! Take a few, figure out what you want, and pay off those loans while you're doing it. If you really hate it, then getting out and giving yourself another option might serve as a powerful motivation to succeed in future academic endeavors.

If you're serious about this and not just crying for help/giving up, it's actually not a bad option, especially if your alternatives aren't all that attractive...

Or you could do everyone a favor and stay the hell out! I just graduated from Army OCS, people like yourself that started out there with me were gone after the first few days! If anything, try the Air Force or Navy.

There is always a choice. Trust me, the military may not be your best bet. If you can get a commission, that is ok but you need like a min 2.8 GPA for most commissions and must pass the officer aptitide test. Enlisted life bites but teh military/goverment bites teh enlisted even harder. DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR RECRUITER!!!!!!

1. What are your stats? (GPA undergrad and grad)
2. MCAT/GRE scores?
3. Degree in?
4. why can't you get into POD school at least? Temple takes people with a 18 MCAT.
5. Why can't you get into a carib med school, not big 4, but any?

Ignore everything this guy just said. I am where you are going to be really soon.

1. i work in the medical field in the navy and noone respects anything about your job. You are just another number and expendable. You will not go through OCS with a foreign degree. The only way through OCS is to have a US degree >2.8 GPA in a field desirable to teh branch you want to serve.

2. Military experience is not worth crap. I an't tell you how many guys have 8-12 yrs of military medical experiences and are not qualified to wipe a old man's butt cheeks for min wage when they get out.

3. Military does not offer pre-reqs that count. Some of the classes on the SMART trasncript may say Anatomy and Physiology or something, but it accounts for no credits in the eyes of AMCAS dictators.

4. OK I was wrong, I actually agree with this last point. You need to take a break from academics. I don't know your situation adn why you face sudden doom, but you really need to PM me!

* What are your options. tens of thousands of college debt is not that bad. Last time I checked, med school edbts are hundreds of thousands.

* Every if you failed every single class, you can still get into a med school. DO (AACOMAS) does not count first time classes. If you were serious enough to retake every single bad class and get at least a B in them, you are right back in the game. Also, MCAT does not need to be that great for DO schools. Maybe 24-27. I would do this option and get in more debt before getting in the debt of "life" to the military.

* I fnot for the military (stundted growth system) I would be graduating from med school this year instead of just now starting it.

Am I missing something about the greatness of the Army. Please help me understand why this OP would be a better fit for the AF or Navy, and not the Army. Who are you to pre-judege this guy. Everyone has a bad spill in life and how they rebound determines what type of person they are! People like you annoy me and the entire military healthcare system is in shambles now because of closeminded, pre-judging, hippocritical people like you. I feel sorry for what ever team is beneath you. Take some advice future leader, do not judge a book by the covering. Everyone in you command is not perfect and sometimes you must allow a person to fall before they can walk. This OP needs advice, not more negative views. Do the classes have to be taken at the same college? I have some classes that I would rather take 2 other classes in place of, such as math, can that be done?

NO. Example:

Biology 1 at CC = F
Biology 1 at university = A

Grade in GPA calculation = A

When you enter your grades, you will see these weird prefixed and letters. You need to make sure you understand the letter system becasue it can be somewhat confusing. You just have to mention the grade and chosoe 1st attempt (not counted). Then, enter the 2nd grade ana dmake sure they count it.
