Here are my scores for the dreadful DAT exam. I'm very happy with the outcome except for the reading. I don't know if 17 is good enough. For the QR I expected to score higher since it's my strongest subject. After the test was over I knew exactly what I did wrong ----> silly mistakes and rushing to finish. I finished with 6 minutes to spare.
Special thanks to a few sdnrs foe their last encouraging words : mightyrat yankeefan86 Wizi Docsmile dentalworks Reely989 and a handful of others.
I honestly learned more here than I did in school 🙂

My overall GPA is 3.73
I will post a complete breakdown later. Now I have a BBQ to go to 😀

You can get away with that 17 RC since you have strong stats (Huge GPA+DAT).

If you wanna feel better, aim at alot of schools. It is unlikely that application is going to receive (say) 15+ rejections.

congrats

Great work! I hope you enjoyed the BBQ and were able to take a sigh of relief. I have a good feeling you will have a lot more dental school worries in the years to come so make sure to enjoy!

Thank you all🙂
I will post a complete breakdown later tonight. I've been busy putting the application together. This process is more tedious than the actual test 😛

BRAKDOWN :

Reading : I did better than I taught. I used my brother's SAT book and exam crackers. It did help a lot. I did not get "pianoed". In one passage i was able to answer some questions without reading the passage. My strategy is to reading the questions first then read the passage. I guess it helped. I guessed on a couple of questions.

Math : My strongest point coming to the test. All I used was the math destroyer for extra practice. I did all the 12 tests. Test # 12 was a bit challenging. I also timed myself when doing those practice tests. I used the elimination method. there will be always 1 or 2 answers that are obviously wrong. there were a few word problems that took me a bit longer to solve. My advice is know the basics and if you have problems with math dont wait till 2 weeks before to start studying for it. As far as the calculator is concerned i didnt use it all.

Gchem: I started studying for this using the regents chemistry for high school( those of you living in New York know what i'm talking about) It helped me brush up on the basics. Then I used my chem text books ( McMurry. Ebbing ) and then I moved to the destroyer. I did all the questions. My advice is understand the concepts. Do not memorize the answers it won't help. Most of the questions were conceptual some were straight forward and a few calculations. During the last week i just went over the solutions in the destroyer and tried again to understand them.

Orgo: I used ACS and Maitland Jones organic book to get a good feel of the concepts, then used the destroyer. I feel that the organic section wasn't that bad. If you can master the destroyer you will do just fine. Know the road maps, Know the reactions and more importantly the concepts. I didn't expect to do as well.

Bio: I used AP cliff notes. This should be your starting point. I took some extra Bio classes so that helped a lot. I also used Campbell Bio book and destroyer. Like everyone says it's random but not all of it. Some questions I didn't have a clue so I guessed. Some questions require a bit of thinking that's all. If you are weak in bio or only took 1 or 2 classes in college give yourself extra time when studying for this section. There is a huge amount of information that you need to absorb before going to the test.

PAT: my savior is CDP. I also used kaplan to get the basics. My emphasis though is on CDP. to me it was on par with the actual test.

in terms of the difficulty I think the test was average. On topscore I was scoring a bit higher than what I actually got on the test.

Hope this breakdown will clear a few things for you all.

good luck to you all
