Hi. It's been seven years since I took some of the pharmacy prereq. in college. My freshman year I was undecided about my major and took one year of basic chemistry and biology. I got As and Bs but decided not to stick with the science field and went for a BA in Psychology. Would I need to retake chem. and bio. since it's been quite a while?

depends on the school you're applying to. some schools will allow up to 9 years.

Definitely depends on the school. Some are 10 years, others are 7, but most are 5 years. I'm lucky b/c i've worked in labs and now do clinical research so even though i graduated 10 years ago, they are more lenient. But, to cover myself i took both semesters of A&P, retaking Organic and will take Biochem this spring. Best advice is talk to the schools and see what they suggest...

Totally depends on the school - pharmacy is a career change for me and my freshman chem and bio prereqs were 20 years old. I had no problem with the schools I applied to. However (and I think this is a pretty big one) I did really well on the PCAT, which I think proved to the admissions committees that I still had a mastery of the basic material even though it had been a long time since I took the actual classes.

what was your PCAT score? Was it your first time taking it?

I'm starting this year after applying last year for the first time. My English prereq was from 1995, Chem I/II Fall 2000/Spr2001 Calc and Ochem Fall 2001/Sp2002. I didn't have any questions come up during the application process about these. Of course my Biochem was more recent, as was micro, a/p, and Bio. So if some are older, and some are newer, it's probably no big deal. If they're all that old, then you may need to explain how you've kept your skills up in the interim (work experience, etc)
