Raise your hand if you are done with school completely and have no finals.

Bonus points if you have replaced finals time with "toiling away at work while you wait for school to start" time.

I am throwing up two hands for being at my desk at work while reading this post.
Time could not be moving slower.

fish? really? I'm a country girl and have NEVER heard of this. Prolly cuz I've been in the city for far too long.

Yes some fried fish and grits oh my god....I LOVE IT!!!! lol That's one of my must haves when I go back home.

I come from the most southern family ever. My Dad's side of the family was from Mississippi, and my mom's side was from Alabama. They all eat the hell out of grits, but I've never heard of putting fish in it.

I love finals week. By finals week I just get to sit back and watch my students take my exams. I dress more casually and have zero prep. Two more weeks until I'm done lecturing for good! Just gotta get through Special Senses and then I'm not an A&P prof anymore, but a medical student!

Woo Hoo! I've been done with school since 2006!

Oh and grits with cheddar cheese and chopped jalapeno are my favorite. 😀

Grits suck.

Hashbrowns OTOH......

If you dont know where those plates are from, I am sorry. Best place to eat a greasy yet filling delicious breakfast. Ever.

Oh, and *raises hand* done with skool since '06.

I miss school.

I would prefer finals over sitting here at work pretending like I care about this job.

Just a few more months....

Finals??? I'm sorry I can't even remember what those are!

Ya'll bring up a good point though, I haven't given my department proficiency evaluations in quite a while. I'm gonna get right on that after my morning nap.........I mean conference call. If ya'll get a wash of negative vibes in about 2 hours, thats from the 40 people swearing under their breath at whoever reminded me it was test time.

Grits sounds great! Maybe nap, then snack, then tests.

Good Luck Ya'll. 99 Days and counting!!!!!

By the way, I've been done with school since '05, unless you count all the underwater basket weaving I took to keep my loans in deferment.

Ways to order your WaHo hashbrowns....

"scattered" (spread on the grill),
"smothered" (with onions),
"covered" (with cheese),
"chunked" (with diced ham),
"diced" (with diced tomatoes),
"peppered" (with jalapeño peppers),
"capped" (with mushrooms),
"topped" (with chili) and
"all the way" (with all available toppings)

UHMM this is Odd. I thought that was a universial favorite in the south... then again maybe its just South Carolina LOL...Fish & Grits. I think that's what I am going to cook tonight LOL. Hopefully it turns out well since I don't have any spot or croaker.

ive lived in alabama all my life and can safely say that ive never heard of fish in grits...

however, salting and sugaring the h*ll out of grits is more common where i live than cheese or pepper.

I think those of you without finals are just jealous! 😉 I think you wish you were me with my two papers, two finals, one SAS homework and one SAS project all within the next 11 days. 😱

By the way this talk of grits, especially fish and grits, makes me want to :barf:

O and in the spirit of the thread, I wish I had no finals, well technically they are not finals well except for the lab practical. I have like 3 projects that are due on the FINal day of class, so in theory its a FINAL??😀😀

Fish and grits, or shrimp and grits, is a meal that you eat in the evening in the low-country of South Carolina near the coast. Some people make it with tomato gravy as well. Farther from the coast people eat chicken (fried, obviously) and grits.

BTW, finals stands for: ****! I Never Actually Learned ****.

I'm finished with finals, thank goodness. I do have a little thing called "the boards" coming up, though, and that requires some studyin' 🙂

i think my heart stopped just reading that list.

 Nice . . . I totally recognized the plates BTW. 😉

Scattered, smothered, covered and chunked is the way to go!

I'm so close - one more final on May 7th and then I'm done with this post-bac thing FOREVER :hardy: Until then, can I get bonus points for studying AND working simultaneously?!!

Grits rock. But hashbrowns rock too. Especially from awful waffle.

There. That's my order. When will they be here cuz I'm kinda hungry. Although do hashbrowns taste as good when it's not 3am and you're not drunk? hrmm.

I usually salt/pepper/butter/cheese grits. Cream of Wheat and oatmeal are for sugar and cinnamon, butter with a splash of milk.

Oh. I've heard of shrimp and grits. It's actually really good. Also tomato gravy. My grandmaw's is the BEST!

And your interpretation of FINALS seems pretty accurate from where I sit right now. I definitely feel like I haven't learned ****.

I think everyone needs a little artery clogging queso in their diet,
best drunk food ever.

Any points for "toiling away at work instead of studying for finals?"

One thing I'm going to miss if accepted elsewhere is the food down here in the south. I love most of this unhealthy stuff. I'm actually not a big grits fan..Just never clicked with me. I've had good ones, but there are other things I rather have more.

I've heard of the fish thing, but like noted..only in the south carolina area. While there are certain things that are pretty common in all of the south, the variation is huge. I think thats what makes it fun, especially with the barbeque. I've heard people from texas, memphis, and the carolinas all bickering over methods, meats, and sauces for endless amounts of time.

One thing I don't like much here is mullet fish. I was always raised to treat that as a bait fish, but here it is a popular one to eat. To make things worse, it has the name of one of the worst haircuts known to man.

I can agree with you on the mullet fish and the haircut.😀😀 LOL

I work as a personal trainer, no finals for me! 👍 My job is also extremely fun. I feel sorry for all you people stuck in the same place doing menial tasks all day... wait, no I don't :meanie:

All in all though, I will be happy once school starts.

I can relate. I graduated last Saturday and now I'm back to working 50hr/week until June. Time crawls sitting here at my desk.

wooohoooo, no finals for me!! And as an added bonus, this is the first year since high school that I don't have some sort of exam on my birthday 🙂

instead, I have to bartend. Terrible life, really. 😛

I did some personal training. It wasn't like that was horribly exciting either. I made good cash but it felt like the same crap every day at the gym for me too! I have a job lined up with homeland security which may be somewhat interesting. I get solid pay and hours that adjust to my schedule....and I get to spy on all of you tirrorissts

One of my jobs is as a personal trainer. It can be fun, but my internship for my kinesiology degree was working in strength and conditioning for UT Men's basketball in 2003. We went to the final four, and we've got three guys from that squad who have spent significant time in the NBA, a couple other guys playing professionally overseas, and a couple others who are in the d-league. We did legitimate athletic workouts, and every single athlete got after it hard, and did exactly what I said without complaining.

Now I am working with the general population. It can be rewarding, particularly in the people who have a lot of success (the ones who work out on their own, as well as with me, on a regular basis), but it can also be kind of lame, because most of them are so limited.

I am absurdly jealous of you all.

Finals left to take:

Molecular Biology (monday)

Physical Biochemistry (tuesday)

Physical Biochemistry Lab (thursday)

Protein Chemistry (thursday)

Protein Chemistry Lab (Completed!!![92%])

Chemistry Seminar (i cant remember)
-------------------------

I have the remainder of this week of classes, then finals...

This is my to-do list: Protein Chemistry poster presentation on g-proteins; phys. biochem. test 3; phys. biochem lab report (2 of them, 1 lab is still waiting to be completed); protein chemistry lab report; make a website for chemistry seminar on triacylglycerol metabolism... then study study study for finals.

I have pretty much till friday to get all of that done... I'm not seeing that as viable. lol 👎

Can't wait to see how hard med school is!
