I'm really starting to wonder why people call it "the MCATs". They say they're "studying for their MCATs", but that isn't really correct. Am I the only one who kind of feels :smack: about that? Its the Medical College Admissions Test, so it should only be MCAT without the "s" at the end. Saying that you're studying for the MCATs is like saying that you're studying for the SATs or biology finals.

Maybe I'm starting to think that some people are saying that they're "studying for their MCATs" because they already know that they'll have to take it more than once due to their first score being low :meanie:

It's not "Its," it's "It's" if we're being grammar police. Seriously, only a dbag would be haughty enough to correct people (I still smile and nod when my mother mentions the MedCATs - which to me sounds like a troop of superhero cats with tiny stethoscopes).

EDIT: Forgot to mention that my "advisor" is actually a retired physician. O_O

(on the funny pre-med quotes thread yesterday)
Anytime someone asks me how I did on "the MCATs". I instantly roid rage.

If you wanna quote me, go ahead and hit that "quote" button. But a whole new thread? Really?

Your point OP? I mean who cares how people call it? Gosh, you really have a lot of time in your hand to make unnecessary thread like that.

not as bad as calling it the "em-see-ay-tees"

or the Medical College Aptitude Test (Nova)

MCATS MCATS MCATS MCATS!

Around here (Ohio+Michigan) we have a store called "Meijer". Everyone and anyone in this area will say:

"I need some groceries, guess I'll go to Meijers after work."

I'm so used to it that I don't even correct them. In fact, I caught myself saying it lately.

MEIJERS MEIJERS MEIJERS MEIJERS!

I think in the above, they are saying Meijer's in the possessive form. Like we are going to Meijer's store. But when people say MCATs, they are implying plurality, which doesn't make sense, because when you are studying for the MCAT, you are only studying for one test, not multiple tests.

I'm analyzing this too much.

I've been speaking with an anesthesiologist that calls the test the "Med-cats."

I'll be sure to tell him he is wrong because some pre-meds on an online forum said so!

Thanks everyone!

I'm surprised you guys all take the defensive without practicing the adage, the best defense is a good offense

I get asked about my studies and if I like the person I'll be kind, if I dont like them, I'll respond while asking them.. how goes the diet?
or some other remark about their person. such as so, when are you shopping for new clothes.

etc
