I believe Hell has frozen over.

Out of protest to Apple's continued insistence to only offer glossy displays, I am considering a Windows laptop. I can't stand glossy displays, and I must have something very portable (12" is ideal).

Any recommendations for great small Windows laptops?

I'm using a Dell 700m, which is rather old, but a 12" screen and pretty portable.

I'm sure you can find something newer and lighter though.

say it aint so 😱

so microsoft writes a massive piece of bloat-ware that only runs well on fast new processors ... and that makes you want to by a windows PC ?

can't pages open the new office file format?

btw - i'm with you on the point that apple haven't come up with a suitable replacement for a 12" powerbook - a 12 or 13 inch MBP (with matte screen option) and a decent graphics chip would be awesome.

You apparently have lost in translation the reason why I am getting a PC.

Faster speed, price, portability, and the option of a NON-GLOSSY (MATTE) SCREEN.

Steve Jobs thinks everyone loves glossy displays, and perhaps he has the marketing research to show that. However, glossy displays aren't for everyone. (Some of the other forums I visit seem to be 60/40 in favor of glossy displays.) The fact that he doesn't offer matte screens on most computers anymore means he might very well be alienating 40% of computer users.

I just couldn't do it. I tried a few Windows Vista laptops and couldn't stand using it.

I ended up purchasing a MacBook. Although it has a glossy display, which I'm not a huge fan of, the display wasn't as bad as I thought. It has incredible glare while in the Apple Store, where the screen is often tilted into the light as people are looking at the screen while standing above the laptop. At my home, the laptop's glossy screen is barely noticeable.

What can I say? I'm a Mac addict. It's ok though. Some people will call it fanatacism, while those of us who use Macs will simply call it superior computing.

You made the right choice. 😉 Just avoid direct light. I still want an alum MB that doesn't exist yet. 🙂

And I want Apple's version of the ModBook. Please. Pretty please.
