Are any of you going to the 3rd year party at Broadripple on Monday? Free booze and snacks sound good to me... 😀
I hate to rain on the parade, Nahir, but only the food & sodas are free. Still gotta buy your own booze. 😀 😉

NOOOOOOOOOOO! They lied to us! 😀 It will still be fun. 😛

Wha??? The oat soda wasn't free?

I hope everyone is getting ready to dig tomorrow . . . I was forewarned to protect my eyes from flying pieces of bone 😱

IUSD c/o 2009....

It was nice meeting all of you and I wish you the best of luck. I just received a phone call from UIC (Illinois-Chicago) this morning after history of dentistry (which seemed like it was going to be a great class....the professor seems really cool) that I got off the waitlist after being on it since March 22nd. They offered me a spot in the c/o 2009, and I couldnt turn it down. In any case, I talked to Dr. Kasberg and said he understands where I am coming from. I officially withdrew from IUSD this morning and am heading back to Chicago when my parents come down Saturday (they were planning to come down here for the white coat ceremony anyway). Good luck to you guys...Bill and Ahmad thanks for all of the advice. Good luck to everybody (Nahir, Julie, Virgil, Mike, etc). Dont let PBL get to you....and study hard.

Great news, Dave! Good luck at UIC.

I was looking for you in the lab, but I didn't see you. 😉 Where's your table situated in the lab, and has your group "adopted" a TA yet? If you didn't have anybody helping you out today, I can make sure I swing by your table Friday.

Thanks for the offer Bill! I'm at table 15-we actually are having an easier time than some of the groups b/c i guess some of my group members have already done dissections on cadavers, plus our cadaver is pretty skinny. the nerves and blood vessels are all kind of one big mess though-we're being told the same structure is a nerve by one TA and an artery by another . . . i guess that's to be expected though. I'm sure we can always take it to a higher court though 😉

Congrats Dave! Best of luck in Chicago 🙂

Reason #1: Congrads to Dave. It was wonderful meeting you. I wish you all the best. I am very happy for you and your fiancé. 😉 Study hard!!!!

Reason #2: Why the heck is our cadaver so fat?!?!?!?! She has fat every where!!!! I would not be surprised if we cut open her femur and discover globs of fat in that too....... 😡

Reason #3: Sorry I have been missing in action. I am officially back on track. Feel free to continue with your lovely messages of endearment and affection!!!! 😍

#1: I hope everybody's having as much fun learning anatomy as I'm having helping teach it. If anybody here gets stuck on anything during lab, whatever group you're in, if you don't have a TA helping you (or if, for whatever reason, you don't like the one you have) just come up & down the lab and find me. I'll probably be digging around helping another group, but just let me know and I'll be glad to come give any help I can.

#2: If anybody has any dental work they know/suspect/aren't sure/etc. they need done, or even if you're just due for a cleaning, send me a PM. I've already got two patients from your class, and I'm always looking for more. Most care (cleanings, fillings, perio, sealants, splints, night guards) is totally free to students (and spouses, too); the only things you'd have to pay for are treatments that require outside lab work (crown & bridge, dentures, ortho). Any questions, just drop me a line and I'll answer as best I can.

#3: I hope everybody's enjoying anatomy. 😉

getting our dental instruments and supplies today was pretty exciting and nerve-wrecking at the same time 😀. i hope to not lose or get any stolen...

I felt like I went on an involuntary ~$4,500.00 shopping spree.....high-speed, low-speed, moderate-speed, in-between-all-three speeds.......WHAT THE HECK DID I PURCHASE?!?!?!?

Aside from the money and the total lack of knowledge, I CAN'T WAIT TO USE THEM!

One thing about the handpieces--make sure you somehow mark them with your name or student ID or something. If they get lost, that way you can ID them, and if someone tries to steal them, it's pretty obvious that the handpiece they're using isn't theirs.

Hey Everyone!!

Sorry to crash your thread, but I had a quick question that you may be able to help me with. I have applied to IU as a non-resident (currently live in Texas, but originally from central Illinois and wouldn't mind getting back to that part of the country).

Do y'all know the possibility of a non-res getting into IU? I won't have my bachelor's degree by the time I matriculate because I have been in real estate for the last 4-5 years & can only take classes here & there (I do have all the prereqs though). Plus, I have a wife & a 6-month old baby girl to support.

That being said, I do have a 3.84 gpa (3.76 science) and just got a 23/22/22 on the DAT. Am I wasting my time or should I continue to push ahead? Thanks for all your help & advice!!

You're good to go. I am an out of state student and had scores way lower than yours. Out of our 100 member class, about 30ish are out of state i.e. 30ish% of the class.

Good job on those scores. You're gonna get into many schools this year, assuming you don't screw up the interviews.

Cheers.

What IWuvTeef just said. IU is very nonresident-friendly, and your numbers are excellent. If you want to attend IUSD, I'd venture to say you'll be able to.

I really appreciate y'alls advice. I'm really hoping to get accepted to IU. My brother & his wife live there (up near Trader's Village) and the town seemed great the last time I visited - not too big, not too small.

When does IU start sending out interview invites?

Thanks again!!

make sure your marks are very very clear. otherwise good luck finding it again.

Sup people..............WOO HOOO!!!! PBL ROCKS!!!!!!!

note: this was a cheap attempt to keep our thread current.....really, I get depressed to think how our thread is aging and dying!!! Keep our thread alive!!!!

By the way, we are having cheese, crackers, wine (which would explain the emotional outburst) with a smidge of PBL searching ....oh and for the record, PBL is not so bad with wine! Iwuvteef and Mr. Miyagi say hi! After this we will sit in a circle and assess each other.
