If you already submitted all your secondaries, than an update letter at some point (now is probably premature). If you haven't submitted your secondaries, many schools have optional essays where you could add things like recently started ECs.

So you're saying you've just now added new activities? That's kind of...transparent unless it really fits the rest of your app. If it's something like you just got word back that your submitted paper is going to be published, then sure it's worth sending an update. If, on the other hand, it's that you've just started volunteering somewhere or started a new job, well, you haven't really done anything noteworthy yet, so I would maybe submit an update a little later once the accomplishment is something substantial. Otherwise, you're really just watering down your app.

Just write about them in an update letter. I feel like it is important to incorporate them into a bigger picture of yourself, one that matches something in your app like your personal statement. So take time to write them and edit them multiple times before sending them.

thanks guys, I havn't submitted my secondaries yet so I'll add it as part of that.
It was something that I didn't intend on doing but ended up doing it in August
