Well, from last night until now i've been slowly thinking of dropping out of college (this is maybe my 4th week in college) due to a bad grade on a chem test (and I thought it was extremely easy wilst taking it). It's not so bad that I couldn't still get an A in the class, though it would take almost 100%'s on all of the rest of the tests.
dude, it's your first semester. take a deep breath. if your score is really, really bad, then drop the class, but not out of slu! something to keep in mind, if you do drop, you'll get a W on your transcript. this isn't something you want IF you can still realistically get a decent score (like at least a B). of course if you really didn't do so hot, dropping might be the way to go.

I know now that that's just stupid. I need to admit that I have time management problems and I don't set aside enought time to get stuff done and in the meantime end up wasting time that I could've achieved something.
slu has specific time-management workshops at their academic advising center--the one by crazy bowl wraps if i remember correctly. you might want to give them a try. learning to schedule stuff well and *sticking to it* is very important. set goals for yourself each day and MAKE SURE you accomplish them.

So, basically, I'm asking you guys to tell me how you dealt/deal with time management. Especially since I'm in a undergrad research lab (btw, since it counts as a credit and it's a chem credit and i will get an A in it, does it count towards BCPM?) and there's no specific time I have to go in, I think I'm skimping on the work I should be putting in there.
i think the lab will count in your bcpm. keep in mind that the research lab is probably just one credit hour. in terms of weight, that's not that much in comparison to your gen chem class which is probably 4, right? better to do well in your class than in that lab. lab opportunities will always be there in the future.
sounds like you're having a fun time with the extra currics. that's GREAT. but not if it hurts your academic performance. gotta balance

i'm just stressed. how can i get a 4.0 if i'm worried about having to get 100% on every test in a certain class.
this college thing got real interesting real fast
rewind, don't worry so much about the numbers. if you do your best and put in the effort, your gpa will be nice. you don't HAVE TO get a 4.0...maybe you're putting too much pressure on yourself. not trying to be mean, but you're not gonna get a 100 on every test here on out...if you have to drop it this semester to readjust, so be it. if i remember correctly, slu ALWAYS offers gen chem I in the spring. you can talk to the prof about it if you'd like. the prof probably won't have any qualms about sitting in the class even if you drop. i honestly think that would be good for you. act like you're still taking the class (assuming you drop) and do all the homework. when the class comes around in the spring, blow it out of the water.
also, you might be concerned about the issue of being full time at slu b/c 12 c.h. is considered full-time, and you're taking 13. dropping chem I would bring you down to 9, BUT you can sign a paper of some sort that says that you're still a full-time student. you might need this for residence hall stuff/scholarships. talk to your advisor about it, she'll know.

i just thought that getting anything lower than an A in my bcpm classes would not get me in to college. i mean... i know there are a lot of people in this world that are smarter than me and will get those spots @ the "good" med schools and i'll be left hanging with a degree I can't really do much with.
rewind, the number you need to shoot for is 3.5+ . anybody who tells you that you need to have a 4.0 bcpm is out of their frickin mind

I don't know about asking for extra credit though. I don't want him to just laugh in my face and say "this is college buddy, now go somewhere," though I doubt it since he has a "Fr." @ the beginning of his name and works at a jesuit university. Ahhh... why not, the worst he could do is condemn me to hell, right?
sorry bud, i doubt you're gonna get an extra credit. couldn't hurt to ask though.

i just got a 69% on my bio test.... and it was "easy" again. i don't know what the **** is wrong with me.this is starting to piss me off, i don't know what to do. i studied so hard for this test too.

I'm calling tutoring tomorrow as soon as they open and I'm getting weekly scheduled visits for chem and bio, I really can't **** this up. I mean, even if I don't end up wanting to become a doctor, I definitely want to do something in biochem.
The thing is, I ****ING UNDERSTAND ALL OF THIS STUFF..... and I never choked on tests before in highschool.... it just doesn't make sense. I just feel like going home and curling up in a ball.
definitely hit up tutoring. it's FREE. DID YOU DO A PRACTICE TEST UNDER TIMED CONDITIONS LIKE I SUGGESTED? gotta do this...and you gotta work though all the old practice tests you can and you gotta do the problems assigned. if your teacher doesn't tell you which ones to do, a tutor can prolly guide you.
good luck man
oh yeah, sorry i didn't get to your pm earlier...but i'm guessing by now you know some of the finds around campus...by the way, saturdays and sundays are a pain sometimes with their hours of operation. the one place i know at slu that is 24 hours that's pretty quiet is in du bourg. right next to the dps office there's a little vending area...it's open 24 hours and usually nobody's there
🙂
