Hey Guys,

So I've got 6 letters of recommendation in my file and I'm trying to decide which 4 of them to AADSAS. I had originally decided which ones I wanted to send but I'm starting to get cold feet for the 2 science letters. I was wondering if you guys had any opinions on which ones would be the most advantageous to send.

I've got..

-O-chem professor at university who's known me as "a student" for about 2 years (sending this one for sure)

-G-chem CC professor who knows me very well and I'm sure wrote me a great LOR

-Biochem professor who I went to office hours for for half a semester (he only taught half the class) but he's a really nice guy and we did get to know each other a little bit during 1 on 1 office hours b/c no one else ever showed up

The thing is, both the o-chem and biochem professors are PhD's and are professors at a large prominent university that boasts world-class faculty. The CC professor has a MS from a mediocre state school and g-chem is an extremely introductory class.

I was originally thinking: Ochem + CC
(and sending the biochem one to schools that require 3 science LORs)

But now I'm starting to think: Ochem + biochem
(and sending CC to the schools that require 3)

I'm pretty certain that none of the letters have anything negative to say but do you guys think that using 2 PhD letters would be better than using a CC/MS?

so you're going to send them to AADSAS? Did not know this was possible.

Don't worry that he is from a CC. The ad coms aren't going to look at the header of the LOR with his information. They are going to look in the body of the letter as it reflects to your abilities/potential. I would stick with the 2 people that know you best.

You said 6 LORs: Ochem, Gchem, Biochem, and what are other 3 LORs?

I am assuming you have 1 LOR from dentists?

Thanks, yeah that's what I'm leaning toward now.

3 of those
1 dentist
1 counselor from cc
1 non science

I'll send the extra science and counselor to schools if they ask for more (i don't know why they would).

The schools will not know where the MS came from but they will certainly know that it is not a Ph.D.

Yeah, this is the main reason for my hesitation. I have no doubt that the letter from the cc professor is good, but I want to show dental schools that I have interacted with my 4 year professors at universities too.

How are you able to submit 6 letters?

Also, it totally doesn't matter where the professors went to school or where they teach (it reflects nothing on you). but what they write in the letter does reflect on you, and you need to make sure it is as personal and as positive as possible.

Any time I've heard the CC LOE thing come up in the presence of admissions people/faculty, they always say it's fine but are sure to mention the preference for PhD.

I agree that the content of the letter is more important and that a professor with an MS can probably vouch for you as an individual and a student equally as well as a professor with a PhD. But a part of me is convinced that part of the LOE thing is the ability to secure specific letters. If it happens to be a good letter, then that's a plus.
