I’ve had to stop volunteering due to covid... how does that impact my app?

I’m applying this cycle, I had 190 hours in a soup kitchen. However, I’m a caregiver for an elderly person who has diabetes and was a heavy smoker. Her doctor and caseworker urged me to stop volunteering at the soup kitchen, so I looked into pantry positions (because it involves minimal contact with others), but those positions are filled through June.

I don’t volunteer for my application alone, as I began volunteer work before deciding on med school. But now I’m a little worried that it looks like I gave up on volunteering right before apps, or that I’m using covid as an opportunity to stop volunteer work. Does it weaken my app? I know I can explain it in an interview, but would this raise red flags when reviewing my app? Sorry for the neuroticism.

I also stopped hospital volunteering because the program forced all volunteers to stop coming in.

"Sorry for the neuroticism". That is literally it. Do you really think you are the only premed in this country who has stopped volunteering, shadowing, clinical exp in this last 1-2 months? It's gonna be ok.

Pack the susnscreen; you’re off to the Caribbean.

In all seriousness you’re fine. I’d imagine schools would be more lenient for this gap in volunteering. Medical schools have stopped any and all events that have any sort of gathering themselves.
