The quality of applications is increasing every year. Last year's class stats were in the range of:
GPA - 3.52
Science - 3.43
DAT avg - 18.7
PAT avg - 17.2
Avg age - 26
FL residents - 58
Out of state - 47
I gave over 40 tours of the school last year and had a lot of fun with the students. My goal was to help bring good students to the program who were ready to instill positive attitude in the Class of 2008. I always told students who were super competitive that they were not welcome at NSU, in fact, there are other schools where that type of attitude was encouraged.

I'm really starting to like NSU's attitude. For so long I've dealt w/ ppl like that. Why can't we all just appreciate each other's strengths instead of trying to one-up everyone!? Can u tell me how you deal w/ the tremendous tuition cost? I have a hard time wrapping my brain around it.

It's a heavy load to carry. It's not just tuition, keep in mind. We pay ~30k for tuitition and ~8k for instruments during the first year and ~6k the second year. Housing runs around $1000/month for utilities and then food on top of it, it can easily add up.
What does this get you?
First of all, NSU is a private school and has to charge the high tuitition to cover big expenses so they can recruit good faculty. Second, digital radiography, digital clinics, and cutting edge facilities don't come cheap.
8k for the first year?
You get a brand new laptop (Dell D800) that runs around $2200 included in your instrument package and all the other instruments are yours to keep for life. Wireless LED curing lights, KaVo handpieces, Hu-Friedy cassettes, etc, etc, etc. The stuff is nice. You are trained in the latest technology and will hopefully incorporate that into your practice.
As for carrying the loan? I take out ~40k a year @ 2.770% interest via FAFSA. When I graduate and pick up a real job, I will be able to pay that back in short order. The remainder of the $$ I need for school comes from my family.
$$$ is the major reason people choose UF. If I had to go back, howerver, I would still have made the same choice I made back then.

thanks--i coudl have used that when i was selecting which schools to apply for. The main factor for me was price, and after looking at that i wish i had known! I could have applied to more schools. Oh well. If there's a next time around, i'll do it.DrTacoElf said:

Those are 2002 stats, for this last year UNC was $48,432-outofstate and $20, 059-instate for the first year where on this link it says it was $13,115 for both. At VCU it was $35,678 for 2004 out-of-state where this link says it is $22,756. I would refer to each schools website for the most up-to-date figures. This link is a good idea but the numbers are quite a bit off in many instances.
