Having a hard time deciding between an Ivy League program and a state school. Price is number one concern, but does job opportunities/ salary get influenced based on where you earn your DPT Degree from?

I've heard from many professors, PTs, and employers out there that all they look for is that you passed your boards, the school you graduated from ultimately does not matter.

Without a doubt, UF! Quality of your life during and after school will be undeniably better without the amount of debt you'd have from a private school plus living expenses of NY. I went to a top ranked private PT school, but only because I was fully funded. UF is not a no-name school at all- it has a great PT program and national recognition. State schools tend to be tougher to get into due to the lower cost than "fancy" schools so also likely a stronger cohort. You will not have any issue getting a job from there. Also, don't give too much weight to what clinicals schools offer, these change constantly and depending on how they do selection, it won't be in your control where you end up.

When I worked as a traveling accountant, I audited this SNF in Cleveland, Ohio. And I recall a salary sheet from one of the payroll periods; I was auditing their payroll to make sure no ghost employees were on their payroll timesheets. These PTs and OTs made bank! I doubt they went to an Ivy, per se.

Just be thankful for a lot of blessings such as: you've been accepted to a DPT program, you will ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have a job, your commute time to work could be minutes away from home and NOT hours due to the weather and/or traffic, you'll receive annual raises, you'll feel like you've accomplished something for society at the end of the day, and not crunch numbers and ask yourself what the hell have you accomplished, you'll work a 40hr week (unless you want to work as a PRN), you'll leave work at work and not think about it on the weekends.

You'll have AUTONOMY....I repeat.... you'll have AUTONOMY, you could possibly meet your significant other at your job (if you're single at the moment), you can work for a hospital, SNF, a school, open your private practice, travel pt.

NO, what school you end up going to is irrelevant per what I've witnessed. If you drive a Bentley and I drove a Ford Escort, both vehicles will get us to our destination with the exception of the WOW factor!

Wow, thank you for your inspiring words. Truly remarkable. I agree that it’s all about what I make of it... but how awesome could it be to say I graduated from an Ivy League school. Come on!! Not worth the lifetime of debt, I suppose.

Did you ever decide on school yet? Or still weighing the decision?

How awesome would it be to not live off pasta the rest of your life lol
I am completely fine with living off pasta for the rest of my life, actually. There are so many varieties/ sauces that I could switch it up every day. Think about all the pastabilities... Sorry I had to.

I love puns so I accept it, but think of it more of an analogy for the lack of pastabilities you may have given up just to tell people you went to an ivy school.

No one cares where you got your degree. Go to the cheapest school. I am friends with other PT students in Ivy league, state, private and non of us every compare each other. We all just want to be great PTs. Find a program that works best for you.
