J1 visa urgent

How do I go about getting a J1? Agency? I'm a Canadian who will be doing a transitional year in the States. How long is the turnaround time?

Like most other US visas, J1 is applied for by your sponsor. If you were matched to a residency program, the program administrator should know how to apply for that visa. They will have to issue certain forms and send them to immigration along with an application on your behalf. If they dont know how to do it, which will be odd, you will need to consult an American immigration lawyer.
