man what if there was an avalanche???

Well typically the pitch is too steep. Avalanches are most likely in the 30 - 45 degree range. The slope he is on is too steep to hold enough snow to cause a large avalanche. By the way it's puking snow in Durango right now and I am stuck here on call.😡

Sorry to hear that :-( (about the being stuck on call, lol, not about the risk of avalanches).

Have you seen the new Planet Earth series? It's excellent; I asked about avalanches cuz they show a bunch in the Rockies, something like 100,000 every winter there.

Haven't seen it. But if you want to see an avy just ski the backcountry here in the Rockies. The weekend b/4 last another anesthesiologist and I went to Chatanooga bowl here in the San Juan's. It is a 2,200 ft vertical couloir at around 40 - 45 deg. As soon as we got on it, it slid about 50ft. Just enough to really load the slope below. My ass was puckered so tight a microbe couldn't have passed through.
The San Juan's here in the Durango area are the most avalanche prone mtns in north america. Just my luck.:scared:
