Hi all, hope someone who is/was a student at Jagelonian Med school can get back to me. I would like to know what it takes to be able to practice in the United States after graduating from Jagelonian Med school and doing the last year internship at Rochester medical school? What will be the steps for me to take? And about how long it takes to become a doctor in the US? I'm a US citizen wanting to go study to Poland.

As far as I am aware, you'll need what every US IMG needs: strong Step 1/2 scores, USCE, strong LORs, ECFMG, etc.

But even with a strong academic record, etc., you will still likely be shut out from the most competitive specialties such as all the surgical subspecialties (e.g., ortho, plastics, urology, ophtho), dermatology, etc.

In the US, it takes 4 years undergrad, 4 years med school, then minimum 3 years residency to become a doctor. That's the traditional route. There are some exceptions like combined undergrad and med schools, I believe those are 6 years plus residency, but not entirely sure.

If you want to practice in Europe, then going to med school in Europe makes more sense, but if you want to practice in the USA, then you should try to go to med school in the US (MD or DO).
