So i just did a case on an inmate and it got me thinking. The deputy usually goes for cofee after induction. I think using my anesthesia knowledge I could pull off an escape if I had to. Probably quietly pull out my iv before induction. Would have to be a sedation case of course. Pretend to dose off until the coast is clear.....hope they dont make incision too soon.

They did that in an episode of 'Sherlock' during that show's first season. Just as you said; dude pulled his iv just before induction and then slashed up all the folks in the OR.

Very plausible.

'round here the corrections officers have been known to buy inmates breakfast on the way to the hospital, thinking it'll get them either an early trip home, or at worst another 8 hours of overtime while we wait for them to be NPO.

Escape seems unlikely, since one of them gets in a bunny suit and stays in the OR for the entire case.

I had a death row inmate one time and the officer didn't even come back to the room with us! I was like 😱 :uhno:

At the very least the deputy needs to chain the pt to the bed before leaving the room, right?

I think I remember something very similar happening during the first season of Hannibal.

Copy cats. 😀

Note to self: All inmates in for procedures are to receive an LMA immediately after induction, minimum.

If they can refrain from retching until the coast is clear, perhaps they deserve a chance a freedom.

Whew, at least that guy's (what? bunion? TKA? gender reassignment? 🙂) was taken care of before the state put him in the ground.

Skin graft after he somehow set himself on fire...your tax dollars at work.

What if you could get a hold of doxepram before induction....then load your serum with tons of it.

Would it prevent you from falling asleep?

We get decent amount of inmates. They all get cuffed to the bed and the c.o's don't leave until they are asleep and then they sit outside of the room. The pregnant females get cuffed to the bed when they are in labor and when we do epidurals they stay cuffed. Blaz
