Hi,

I just wanted to ask what the difference is between a jaw reg and a bite reg.

Is a jaw reg where a facebow is used to transfer the relationship between the maxilla and the TMJ to the articulator and a bite reg the interocclusal record?

I remember someone telling me that it's the other way round but the above just makes more sense in my head...

Thanks in advance!

Bite registration - interocclusal record in maximum intercuspation or centric relation when most teeth are present

Jaw relations - term is mainly used if patient has few teeth. Thus, all you have is the jaw relationship to work with. I.e., when you are fabricating a removable partial denture you will often have baseplates and rims for the posterior saddle region. In this case you are recording a jaw relationship.

For complete dentures the term is often called maxillomandibular relations (MMR)

Wrote it on the fly between patients...hope it helps
