I'm wondering if there is anyone on here who has been through Jefferson's Postbaccalaureate Pre-Professional Program( P4) . It's pretty new, in it's second year I think, so I haven't really seen any postings on it.

I got to talk to some students during my interview, but I'd love to hear more about it from anyone who's been through it (or is currently in the program). What was your experience with the faculty and the other students? How did the med school application process go for you? They seemed to be very community oriented and I got the sense that each entering cohort is very close knit. They don't have too many linkages, so I'm wondering whether this was a problem.

Also, has anyone been accepted for this upcoming year? If so, what are your thoughts? Are you planning to go?

Thanks!

I'll also (most likely...still waiting on 1 more program) be attending Jeffersons 1yr program in May!

Just sent in my enrollment form for the one-year program! Not going to lie....a bit nervous as I have not been a full-time student in a long time...but so excited. Looking forward to meeting you in May, Coop004. RP747414, have you heard back from your other schools?

Congrats BovineEMT! It is so nice knowing where we will be come May! I am also nervous, but more excited as of now. Will see you in May :)

Have you received any information about the orientation session or anything else with respect to preparation? I'm still getting all my medical forms and clearances in order, but just wondering whether they've sent out any nuggets of info....

Still no, so I'm beginning to think I'll never hear! Either way, Jefferson seems like a great program so I am definitely excited! I'm still getting my clearances in order as well but they did recently send me an additional 'Welcome' e-mail with an academic calendar, course schedule and textbook list.

Hi! I'm posting here to see if anyone has done this program and thoughts you have on it.....

Hi! I'm posting here to see if anyone has done this program and thoughts you have on it.....
Hey!
I am starting this program in August (two year track). I postponed my 2015 start date in order to work and pay for it. It is a really good program, and about 90% of the students from 2015 were accepted into medical school. I was able to speak with someone doing my track, and though they say the academia component is a bit challenging... It is a really good program. Faculty really guides you along the way!!!

The only thing tricky is the financial aid aspect because it's a "certificate" as opssosed to an actual degree. So you can either borrow additional funds, or pay out of pocket.

Hope this helps!

If anyone has any advice as to whether my credentials are competitive for this program, it would be greatly appreciated!
I will be applying soon for the 2016-2017 cycle.

  • Undergrad/BA - 3.38 (no sGPA)
  • JD (health law concentration)
  • MSPP (healthcare policy)
  • All work/professional experience has been in health care field; completed volunteer work, some was in the hospital setting; shadowed several specialists
And by the way, does anyone know roughly the average age of Jeff's post-baccs? I heard that it's relatively young. I will be 27 by the time I start the program (if accepted). Just curious

Hey,

The age really does vary from year to year. Last year, there was someone 30+, so I imagine the coming year may have a wide range as well. As far as your scores, they also take into consideration your SAT, so that may compensate if you feel like your grades may not be competitive enough. I'm sure your extracurriculars will impress them for sure!

Thank you, I appreciate the advice! I guess we'll see what happens come this fall's admissions cycle.

I'm starting at jefferson soon. The interview was what persuaded me. In fact, I withdrew from bryn mawr because I loved jefferson so much and I have never looked back. It seems like they are more focused on the person and not the numbers. They look for ppl that will be good DOCTORS and they aren't playing the number game in the same way that other post baccs do. I think they often even take risks with ppl and will do whatever they can to ensure that that person succeeds.

The director in my interview focused on my ECs - she had two full pages handwritten with notes on me! It was such an encouraging interview. I felt like everyone else was nitpicking and finding reasons on what I needed to improve on it get into med school while Jefferson was more focused on me as a person and working with me to get into med school. Good luck!

I'll also be starting the 1-year P4 program later this month! All I've received so far is health insurance enrollment information, but nothing on orientation. I have been in contact with the admissions staff though, and it seems like they're working on it (although it would be nice to have an idea of whats going on soon!).

Can I apply for Jefferson Post Bacc with 50% of pre-requisite completed?

I have taken 1 year of Gen Chem/labs and Physics/labs.
I have NOT taken the required Biology and Organic Chem.

"If you have completed more than half of the prerequisite coursework for medical school, or if you have taken the MCAT, you are not eligible for this program." That seems to be the only stipulations that would rule you out. Besides the GPA and SAT minimums. It seems like you just made it. :)

I'm very interested in this program, specifically the one year track. Can anyone give a typical class schedule for a week? Do you still have time to shadow of volunteer outside of class?

So far for one year it's Chem 101 and Chem 102 in summer. Class is all day 2x a week so time to work and do other things during summer. I've heard it's harder in fall and spring as we take 4 class each semester but people still find time to shadow. It's really easy here as we are connected to the hospital. We also take a class in fall which requires a certain amount of hours of shadowing.

How have the Chem classes been? I have had one Chemistry class... Over 10 years ago, so I am a bit nervous.

It's fine.. I think you just have to get in mindset that you can learn it with hard work and persistence. Brush up on math if you can like logs and basic algebra. Feel free to PM me.

Does anyone have any advice/insights about the admissions interview?

Bump - I'd love to hear from more people who are doing/have done the 1-year program!

I'm starting the 1-year program in May and really looking forward to it.

Nice. I'm assuming you're hoping for the TJeff or DO linkage, but do you know if you'll have time to adequately prepare for the MCAT/apply to other schools if god forbid the linkage doesn't work out? What made you choose the program over other ones?

I am hoping to get into this program as well! I have been trying to find the best way to go about getting into medical school. Based on everyone's experience how do you think I would fare in the competition with a 3.18 GPA undergrad? I am also a paramedic, graduated top of my class, with 3 years of EMS experience. I'm looking at these programs because I slacked off for my undergrad :inpain:

I started looking at these programs versus a DIY style post-bacc as I still have the prereqs to hit. My medical director recommended knocking out my pre-reqs and then doing an M.S. as another option... So much to think about!

Thanks for any replies!

For me personally, the accelerated program has enough time for MCAT prep because I've taken several standardized tests and many other 6-8 hour exams over the past years, so I'm pretty accustomed to standardize test prep and long exams. I also plan on taking the glide year so I won't be doing the linkages.
