By searching for places in Newark, I found an entry for "UMDNJ Mincha Minyan". Looks like it's only for Mincha, but probably pretty convenient. It appears as though the closest major option is 1.5 miles from your dental school:

No idea what they're like, since I'm just posting stuff from the website, but you can dig deeper. Good luck.

Er, actually, since the contact is Tzipi, then the Rabbi might be female, so the shul might be reform or conservative. But call and find out, and I'm sure they can help direct you to whatever place is appropriate for you.

thanks for the info!

I'll def take a look.

What is your religious affiliation- are you reform, orthodox, or conservative?

I'm assuming you aren't orthodox or you would have looked into this before coming and wouldn't be living near campus- Newark doesn't have a big frum community! If you are, I think Elizabeth or Passaic would be a good bet for finding a rabbi. You will also find TONS of orthodox Jews at school to point you in the right direction.

Is your primary concern like high holy days services or shabbat services or a mix? Are you from out of state? If you want a weekly thing, you might have to do some searching if you are conservative or reform. I'm sure Newark has a synagogue somewhere if you wanted to go there but there are lots of neighboring towns with strong Jewish communities that I could give you more information about if you want to be directed- based on your observance level.

Hope this helps!
