I'm working on my application and I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted for next year can post their stats so that I can figure out if I will basically be applying for a waitlist spot at this point.

Also, I was wondering if any other applicants from this year or past could tell me how they handled the resume that JHU requests since they ask for most resume-related material in the online portion. Do most applicants just repeat the same information on the paper resume?

Thanks!

I'm a current pb student so feel free to ask me any questions you have about the program. I think its a fantastic program.

I submitted a jazzed up paper version of what I turned in online for the resume portion. Essentially the same accolades but with some additional detail, and a few lesser accomplishments thrown in to fill space. It was essentially the resume I used for previous job applications.

As far as stats, I think they are mostly looking for where you went to school, your test scores, your grades, and why you want to become a doctor. There does not seem to be a strong emphasis on older non-trad applicants but we do have some. Hope that helps.

Hi prolixity29 - I recently interviewed for the program and I wanted to ask you a question - Ann showed me an example class schedule, in which I would be scheduled for Bio/Orgo/Physics with labs - all in the fall semester. Yikes! How do you get a decent grade in these classes with all of those classes/labs all together in one semester? Is it possible or manageable? Am really worried having them all together at once....

Thanks!

Annie,

That's a good question...and it probably gets to the heart of the matter when it comes to this program. Lots of people seem intimidated by this, but the good news is that many of the postbaccs do well in the courses. It is definitely possible/manageable, and yes, they still have time to do a tutorial at the med school or Bloomberg and hang out with friends. It is important though to be motivated, organized, and to have a clear strategy when studying. If you decide to come to Hopkins, PM me and I will be more than happy to share with you specific strategies for specific professors, etc.

The postbaccs organize a lot of study groups together, and the office also hires tutors that you can avail of at any time, either one-on-one or in a small group setting. There are also many books, study guides, and miscellaneous resources handed down from generation to generation. And then of course there are office hours and general university tutoring services. There are enough resources for you to learn the material.

The other thing to remember is that none of this stuff is rocket science. When you're learning the basic science principles it's mostly stuff that was discovered/invented several decades ago so millions of people have been in your shoes and done well enough to advance on to some form of graduate study. You can too.
