After 5 years with a certain community pharmacy, I was terminated 3 weeks ago and have been curious about crossing into hospital pharmacy for quite some time- everyone I know that's there is in a better place and it would be great not to deal with rude pts & controlled drugs being too soon. Due to various paranoid thoughts about career, I fudged up - I did not start off by applying everywhere (I was feeling bad/discouraged and was working on getting IV certification so I could put more on the resume to get into hospital; I only applied to 3 places - 2 hospitals), I presently have one offer for staff rph with another chain, expiring soon.

Would it be bad if I started to work for this chain (they train for 2 weeks) and continue to apply for other jobs - particularly hospital jobs???, with the hopes of getting it?! My concern is new grads will be graduating in 3 months, eg competition.

btw, after my hospital interview (which turned me down) the director told me he had a colleague that was constantly applying and interviewing for jobs, but she wasn't interested in taking them, but rather to see what's out there - kinda weird?? I mean I kinda get it.

I'm gaining time in years out of school and feel like it's the time to finally try new things. (And when ppl pass away it makes it kinda stop and think, is this what I wanna do?) Or else, embrace community and try to be better?

I would take full time job and go from there. Be ready to burn bridge if you quit before a year, but you need to look out for yourself and your goals . Maybe you can say I got this great opportunity I’d like to try and still stay with you prn.
I took a job at cvs and was there 2 months. A job I applied for 1 year earlier in LTC called and I went and accepted job. Wound up moonlighting for cvs for 9 years and was full time LTC for 1 year...but that pay cut was a stepping stone into my next job 1 year later in hospital and have been there ever since.

Take the chain job so you have money coming in...unless you have a lot saved up already. I would try to get in a different setting other than retail; it will be hard for you to get out the longer you are in it. Maybe start with LTC or contract PBM work or something...something different.

Thanks a lot. I haven’t been able to keep my mind straight w thoughts like is it even better or maybe I can’t cut it. I’m not exactly hurting financially as I can move back home (cut my financial burden of rent) but my friend pushed me to interview w rite aid. Rite Aid seems better than a certain 3 letter.... I also feel like I’m not sharp mentally as I was while working. I have an interview coming up for consulting. And I went for a CE on hospital pharmacy topics... so only now can I put that class on my resume.

Is it possible that the director got the impression that you were doing the same thing as his/her colleague?

Nah, it seemed more like he was being encouraging about finding out about other positions. When he walked me out he said something to the effect of too bad that I was let go. Ugh, I think I'm just going to say I left to look for new opportunities because that is the honest truth anyway.
