Hey everyone,

Got an interview coming up tomorrow for a position at my school's clinical trials office as a lab assistant.

Here's the specifications:

Routine laboratory duties, and miscellaneous office duties. Be able to follow detailed instrucitons and keep accurate documentation. Operation of lab equipment, handling of bulk laboratory materials, measuring of liquids, and the ability to multitask. Miscellaneous clerical duties also required.

PREFERRED: Knowledge of blood borne pathogen precautions; knowledge of blood/specimen processing; able to operate a centerfuge, able to follow laboratory guidelines; attention to detail; knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

I've taken Medical Writing where we did an entire unit learning about the local reference laboratory and how various tests work. I have had experience as a research "assistant" synthesizing literature reviews and analyzing data, but no paid wet work. But, I've been through and aced Labs for Chem I/II, OChem I/II, Core bio [dissections and cultures involved], Microbiology. Motivated combined MD degree student with very strong computer background as well.

My question to you guys is, do you have any advice as to how to best present myself in the interview? Any tips on the best way to go about something like this? I haven't had an interview in a while and, with something as specialized as this, I could use your help. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

It will be somewhat difficult for you because of your lack of wet lab experience. Acknowledge that when they ask but go on to talk about how you are willing to learn and come in prepared on all other aspects. Learn about the labs research and talk about smaller details even to show your interest and ask many question

Makes sense fishbait. Thanks for the advice. Yeah, sounds like it'd be good to look up a couple current trials that I can relate to my own academic stuff / background for sure. Anyone else?

Where exactly is this lab? Is it going to be a situation where you are just drawing labs/interviewing patients to determine eligibility and sending them out or what?
