I keep reading various articles that Radiology is being replaced by slowly some by some foreign computer aided systems. Now I have no clue what this is or if it's even true, can anyone confirm?

Also, compensation wise I keep hearing (speculation) that just as cardiology got hit, radiology compensation is going down the drain.

TL;DR Does radiology job outlook + compensation have a bad or uncertain future?

No one knows what the market or compensation will be like in the future. Things we know are that radiology will always play an integral part in health care. You should have an interest in radiology because it is a tough long road to becoming a radiologist. It is also very hard work after residency. Medicine in general has become a worst investment from a financial perspective given high loans and years of opportunity cost, but it is a rewarding job and one that assures you will get a well paying job somewhere.

Aliens are reading CTs and MRs in my hospital.

Oh really?

Believe him. I wasn't even able to do a radiology rotation at my home program because we have Grey Aliens doing ALL of the reads. Even OB ultrasounds and echos, it's insane. The Greys are making bank though, so I can't really knock 'em.

at my program they are illegal aliens

Wait what!?

1) This is technically impossible. In other words, a computer can not even accurately read an EKG half the time, which is just a squiggly line for pete's sake. How far along do you think computers are at reading even a single X-ray which contains a matrix size of 2000x2500 and about 10^6 photons? Let alone ultrasound, CT, MRI, all of nuclear medicine, etc.

2) This would be ILLEGAL. It is against the law for a foreign trained doctor to practice medicine in the U.S. without going through residency here and passing all of the requisite USMLE exams/boards. This goes for all of medicine. Let alone a foreign COMPUTER. Who does the patient sue for a missed cancer? An Indian computer? There is a reason why we have strict licensing laws like this and Chinese and Russian doctors can not just get on a plane to America and start operating willy nilly.

I wish we had better computer assisted diagnosis to help with pulmonary nodules. Although the Maximal Intensity Projection CT is really awesome in helping us catch small nodules so far, better then any CAD. All the new tech improvements will help diagnostic radiologists become even better.

In terms of compensation. It is going down in most of medicine. Also the radiology job market as well as other specialty job markets are saturated, this may be a bit more pronounced in radiology right now. We don't know what the future holds, but I suspect more government intrusion into medicine. The government will make it more difficult to order costly diagnostic imaging so volume may not go up as much as we think... making the job market worse. Or enough baby boomers will need imaging that we will need more radiologist, but medicare will pay squat. Either way, medicine as a whole is far past the golden era.

Dude, there have been many looong threads that have discussed these topics. And, kstreet recently posted an informative 80-90 minute video of recent Radiology Conference presentations that discussed this, too.

Understandable. But, I doubt you'll get different answers since most of the active users now are the same from the threads I posted above.

Also, two of those links are from this year; so, at least look at those.

I appreciate the links you have provided! Sorry for my bluntness.

Kind of a weird request considering that, if your status is correct, you're at least a decade away from entering the radiology job market.

I know. And by then things will be completely different. I may only be a freshmen in college (how to remove that hsdn badge?) but I still like to remain informed.

Ever been to a govt research facility or any major academic center? Some of the top people in their respective fields (not just in Rads) are actually not even ECFMG certified. If you think all images are read by board certified rads, you're in for a treat...it's just the one signing off who has to trust the guy reading them. I won't mention any names though. :naughty:

There are things happening in terms of software which may change the game in terms of how images are read by the computers, and its not foreign-aided, it's within the US.

I keep reading in various articles that the World is ending soon and we should stock up on salt, assault rifles, and tampons. Now I have no clue what this or if it's even true, can anyone confirm?

Also, metaphysically wise I keep hearing (speculation) that just as Jupiter got hit, an asteroid is headed right at the World.

TL;DR Does the World outlook + universe have a bad or uncertain future?

I am trying to be serious here.

We heard through grapevine that aliens are leaving our hospital for another planet.

However, they are designing a software to read all the CTs and MRs and send to them in another planet to be signed.

The weirdest thing about this triple post is that they're time stamped 19 minutes apart. That's some serious post padding.

Can you elaborate on the game changing software that's in the pipeline?

To defend shark (something that I never..ever..thought that I'd say), I've made posts on my phone that didn't come up, so I resubmitted to find that it still hadn't come up. I rebooted my phone and it still wasn't there, so I posted it again. I have no idea if that's what happened here or not.

Thank you.

I first sent the first post. It showed a blank page after clicking the submit button. I was in a different page, so I didn't notice. Then later when I came back, I saw a blank page. I went backward and did it again. Again, it happened. And eventually the internet explorer crashed on me.

This isn't ****en reddit. You sound like an ******* using TL;DR

Indeed. SDN professional forums are for senior medical students or higher only. They are not intended for pre-medical students. I am closing down this thread and ask that users report these sorts of threads in the future.
