Hi guys,
I am going to veterinary school in an area that I do not plan on working around and constantly get emails through groups/professors that have had practices in surrounding states contact them when they are looking to hire a new veterinary associate. Now, these are really great opportunities for students who want to work in the area but I am worried that most of these job opportunities are not being posted publicly. That being said- I feel that it is going to be the same type of situation in the states that I am trying to find a job in- that most of the job openings are going to be advertised through the veterinary college closest to them and not very publicly. Do you guys know if there is any way to email the school and get these potential job posting emails or am I stuck with what ends up in a public ad? Has anyone else been in this situation or had these thoughts...?
Thanks!

When I graduated ten years ago, I used JAVMA to find job openings in states that I was interested in. Now they also have listings online at jobs.avma.org. You can also try state VMAs.

found my job through VIN classifieds

I also mailed cover letters, resumes, and a business card in a nice packet to about a dozen practices in my ideal areas, explaining why I thought I would be a good addition to their practice. Got a couple interviews that way from places that weren't advertising at all but were open to adding a new vet.

You can also arrange off campus rotations your last year to head to your ideal area and meet some clinics that way.
