I just learned of DO as an option recently so still don't know much about it. I've been hearing mixed things about it, on one end---it's becoming more popular and accepted, on the other hand---it's hard to find a job since you are pretty much competing with MD's.. not sure which to believe and it's scary since I do want to be a doctor but not sure of my chances getting into MD program. I am still planning on applying to DO though. I just want to hear some opinions about it. Thanks!

As I told you in your WAMC thread, you don't have a chance at DO schools. I am not trying to be a dick, I am trying to save you money. DO school is still very competitive. But you need to search. In fact the stickies can help. A 2.93 isn't going to get you into med school, period. You need to fix your gpa. Again, not trying to be a jerk, you just need to open your eyes and get your stuff straight.

EDIT: Some people will have gotten in with a 2.9 but these people start out bad and spend a couple years showing that they messed up. No one with an acceptance and a 2.9 gpa got in with 4 years of "mostly Bs and Cs" as you put it.

This is so true. Most people who have low GPAs not only have great post bacc work... they also have a great MCAT score to balance it out. Spend some time retaking your C's and do some post bacc work.

It's not hard for any physician to find a job. The unemployment rate for physicians that want to work is essential zero reguardless of MD/DO status.

I cannot believe that people still think this way.😱 Very naive and a slap in the face. DO's have been around since 1892, not exactly new. Been accepted for a very long time. Best thing I ever did for myself was become a DO.

Not always true, I didn't fit this mold, and got in last year. I did have a solid MCAT in my corner, but I got in with a 2.8 and pretty much consistent performance across the bulk of undergrad. I'm not trying to brag (why would I brag about that), just saying that it can happen, I know because it happened to me.

I did have the MCAT, but no postbacc work, and I even got in on my first app cycle. I'd like to think that I had a lot of the "intangibles" though, so that may have been a big part of it.

congrats, but I think even you would agree that (generally) you are the exception, not the rule. it can happen, but it doesn't very often.

Yes probably true (else the averages would be lower than they are), luckily it's not commonly discussed among my classmates or I'd be embarrassed on a regular basis. I'm proud to be in medical school, and I'm even proud of how I got here. But I do realize that I may be one of the lowest GPA's admitted for my year of applicants.

It's all good though because I'm earning well above average scores pretty easily, med-school is so much better than undergrad. Undergrad was boring and soul-crushing; for me anyway. I hate jumping through needless hoops, and that's exactly what classes like Physics and Chemistry are. The amount of stuff from those two course series that's actually directly applicable is so small that it would be better to combine them into a 1 or 2 semester combined course. I knew that before hand, and it probably had a lot to do with why I didn't put forth the effort I should have in those courses. Anatomy, Physiology, BioChem, Cell Bio, and Genetics on the other hand...
