From what I have heard, Dentists make decent money once they graduate. That being said, there is kind of a saturation of dentists in California at the moment. I live in the SF Bay area so talking more specifically about this area. I work in a Multi Speciality Dental office and I have seen the owner(dentist himself) interview so many dentists and many of them come and go. Most of them are new dentists and they tell me it is a little hard to find a job at this time in California. Its not impossible to find a job, there's no problem in getting a job for one or 2 days but finding work full time can be a little hard. I believe the other states have a good need for dentists so I have seen some people who graduate from the schools in California and move to another state to practice and they have a good pay and are happy.
Having said the above things, I don't want to discourage anyone. I believe once you graduate and you have a good hand at dentistry meaning you do good preps and all, I am sure you can find a job anywhere. In the office I work at, like I said above, we have some new graduates and I am surprised at times they need guidance from us (the assistants), and some of them are not good with their crown preps or take too long etc. Obviously the owner doesn't keep them around for too long.
P.S. For anyone interested in knowing ,I am a FTD too and a registered dental assistant in the state of California.

I am sure its not. I havent heard any of my friends talk about it being an issue. But I know some dentists like my employer, they prefer not to hire someone who needs visa sponsoring etc coz I think it costs them or something like that. I am not sure about it though!does getting h1b visa is an obstacle for ftd?
It depends where you go in California. Central region are always in demand for dentists, and new grads are always welcomed . I am a foreign trained dentist who graduated from US and working in California for almost three years now. I work with a group of highly qualified dentists. I will be more than happy to guide anyone who is looking for a full time job in my area.
Hi. I will be attending dental school soon. I know it may sound too early to concern about this. In preparing for practice after graduation, what are some of the best advices to start networking? Do you recommend GPR/AEGD before entering private practice? How is the job market in rural areas like currently?
