Hey Guys,

Anyone else applying to JHU? I've looked at the MD applicants site, but the stats for people admitted/rejected are so varied. Do you guys think that a 3.83/33S is JHU material? Even interview material?

Good Luck to Everyone Applying!!!!!

Your stats are competitive. I think the rest just depends on your extracurriculars, personal statement, and LOR's. If those are fine you will most likely get an interview at least.

Do you have a special talent, like playing violin for Cambridge and Yale Symphony and were from Alaska; or maybe a Magician? Or maybe, did some serious teachings in the inner city schools? JHU seemed to be looking for those things. Those are specific examples of people I knew at JHMI.

Well, i'm an amateur mountain climber. I've been climbing in colorado, and alaska, and i'm going to alaska again in a few weeks. I'm also going to try to climb the andes in Chile over winter break.

Teaching... well, i've been a TA for biology, and i've done group tutoring (weekly, 8-10ppl per class) for calc and organic chem. I've been published twice as a 2nd and 3rd author for clinical research in trauma surgery. I hold an officer position in AED and a Model UN club. I founded a research journal, but that's only been going for a year. Other than that, i have some EMT/first aid instructor/red cross volunteer stuff. I play ice hockey... and that's about it. Not ridiculously unique, but stands a chance?

I'm applying to Hopkins and I'm a Dime-A-Dozen Schmuck, which means (for those of you who don't frequent the MCAT forum) that I have no life or personality, only MCAT scores and GPA. In fact, I've changed my name to 36N4.0, just so people can know everything about me, just by seeing my name. Do you think I have a shot? (or should I lower my value, to say, maybe a Nickel-a-dozen?)

😉

magicians are lame.

Thanks, Sooner, that was such a helpful post. In fact, in the future, why don't I just PM you when I have a question?

Ah jeez, sorry about that. I was just trying to advertise for D.A.D.S. in Pre-Allo. I guess I really am a schmuck.

I think you've got a good shot. Your ec's sound fantastic. I mean, Hopkins is big on research, right? And you've been published twice, and started a research journal. You seem to have plenty of good medical experience and you have some very interesting hobbies. Climbing over the Andes? Holy crap!

But I've never done this before, so I really have no idea. Whenever somebody asks "Do I have a chance at ______," I always think of "Dumb and Dumber" when Jim Carrey's character asks the woman, "So do you think I have a chance (with you)? Maybe 1 in a 100?" and she says, "Closer to 1 in a million." He replies,"....so you're tellin' me there's a chance!!!" That's a good attitude to take, I think. I mean, we've all got a chance, right?

Eh, no hard feelings... we're all on edge here

Go for it!

From the sounds of it, both quideam and sooner should apply! Hopkins is a fantastic place, and all you have to lose is the application fee.

Cheers,
