I thought during my interview people said said the shifts were 12 hours long; however, I can't quite remember. Anybody know for sure how long there shifts are and how many they do per month? Thanks

I was going to wait and see if anyone else with more current information responded, since I am a couple of years out and am not 100% sure if the shift mix has changed, but when I was there:

JHH (main): mixture of 8s and 12s; interns worked 20-22 shifts, 3rd years worked 16-18. 4th years work 8s, I believe, but I don't know how many a month.

Bayview: 15 12s per month

Howard County peds: 14 12s

Howard County adult: approx 15 8s.

Around conference (Thursday evening-Friday): 8s only (+4 hours of conference)

You should confirm with a current resident, though. Hope this helps.

I am currently a resident... This are the ED shift breakdown...

JHH (downtown): intern: 19-21 shifts, about 13-15 of those are 12's, the rest 8's; 2nd yr: 19 shifts, about half are 12's; 3rd yr: 17-18 shifts, only 5-6 12's, 2-3 6 hr, the rest 8's

Bayview: 18 shifts, mostly 12's, 2 months in 2nd & 3rd yr

Howard county adult as pgy3: 14 shifts, all 8hrs

Howard county Peds, intern and 3rd yr: 14 shifts, now all 8's

Pgy4's only work at JHH in a pre-attending role, 10-11 shifts all 8's. The rest of the time is spent in the FAST (the area of specialization for that year)
