I recieved an email that JHU got my paper secondary on 8/31, but never got an email saying my file is complete (like they told me they'd send). I know they have my LOR's because they're online with VirtualEval. How long after you guys got your "secondary recieved" email did you get your "file complete" email? Thanks for any insights!!

I would call JHU admissions and ask, but I've heard that they don't take to kindly to that.....:scared:

I could walk across the street and ask... "hey about lulu8's app, why haven't you sent her the damn email yet?"

I have not even received the paper secondary receipt email. (mailed it 9/1). So don't know. Anything in the message center online?

Nothing in the message center 🙁 It took them 15 days after I mailed in my secondary to get a confirmation, so hopefully yours will be coming soon.

Where is this message center online?

I mailed my app in July and got confirmation of receipt on 8/18, but have yet to receive the message saying that my file is complete. I also did VirtualEvals upload.

I'm thinking about calling them and asking if there's anything else I need to ensure that my file is complete.

The message center is on the left when you sign into your JHU secondary account. If you call them, let me know what they say 👍

Just called the Admissions Office and told the lady about sending in my app in mid-July w/ VirtualEvals uploaded the same day, then receiving the confirmation of receipt but not the confirmation of evals being matched to the app. She said that they're pretty on-the-ball about sending emails when the process is complete and the email is under review by the adcom. She also said that it's not abnormal for us to not have received said email yet, due to the fact that it takes a long time for them to sift through all of their apps and get everything in order. She also mentioned that their primary focus is on Early Admission apps right now, so we shouldn't worry if it takes a little longer to get that confirmation email.

The whole conversation was pretty congenial and even had a little humor to it, as I mentioned that "I'm merely calling to make sure there's nothing else I need to do...you know how paranoid us premed students are." To which she responded with a laugh and her statements from above.

Good work!!! Thanks for the info. Sounds like we've got a bit of a wait in front of us...

:luck:

Hey All,

If I remember correctly, it takes a little while to get the e-mail. I mailed out my completed application last year in mid-July and didn't get an e-mail confirmation until late August. I received an interview invite in the first week or two of September. So sit tight and good luck!

Feel free to ask me any questions about the school or interview process! It's a fantastic place to learn medicine and I couldn't be happier!

Hi Blue1012, thanks for the information. Do you think I have a chance in h*ll of getting in if I have basically no research in my background (4 months as a research assistant in a micro lab)? 😱

Definitely. I'd say that as long as you get an interview, the school considers you a very legitimate candidate for admission. The number they gave us last year during our interview was that they interview ~500-600 people, which is relatively low compared to a lot of other schools.

That being said, a high percentage of my classmates have done research, some quite significantly. But there are a couple that have never set foot in a research lab. I'd say your several month experience is good enough to count as research (keep in mind that very few undergrads are able to get their name on a publication, so any lab experience where you're involved in a project, especially full-time or paid, counts as legitimate research).

But even those that lack research shouldn't be worried. Hopkins, like most medical schools, is searching for future leaders. Leaders here aren't restricted to researchers--it also includes people in the community, public health, and lots of other facets as well.
