I performed a search on this topic and had a hard time finding a definitive answer (I also saw that the JHU Office of Admissions was pretty rude on the phone in one thread to another applicant).

My point of confusion arises in what JHU exactly requires? I have a pre-health advisor, but I do not have a pre-health committee. Do they solely want the pre-health advisor and no other professors and/or research recommendations? Or do they want the entire package (which would be 6 letters in total)? Thanks for the help everyone, and I apologize in advance for my inability to ascertain the answer using the search feature.

My school doesn't have a committee and my pre-med advisor told me that since there is no committee, you just send in the required lor from professors etc. The schools I have looked at say a committee letter or letters from professors. You don't necessarily have to have a lor from your advisor. (I won't use mine)

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

Anyone else?

If your school doesn't utilize a pre-med committee, then you must submit individual letters from professors. A letter from your advisor is not sufficient.

I was wondering about the same issue, because the application does state the following options:

"Pre Medical Committee/Advisor (Required if you have attended a college with a Pre Medical Committee or Advisor)

Senior Faculty Member (Required if the college you have attended does not have a Pre Medical Committee or Advisor)"

I do have a pre-med advisor, but not a committee. However, I feel that my professors know me better than my pre-med advisor because I just see them more, etc. I called the school today to ask about my status (or lack thereof) and to ask about this question. The lady I talked to was very nice and helpful - not rude at all. She said that while it would be ok to use my advisor's letter, it would also be alright to use the letters from the profs - it just depends on who knows me better. Since I already submitted the secondary and designated the advisor/committee letter but I'm not officially complete (it's taking forever), she said that I can just write a quick note to the school asking them to consider the other letters (all of them are posted on VirtualEvals) and they will do so when they get to my application.

I had the same problem so I called my pre-med advisor who told me that it would not be in my best interest to get a letter from her. So maybe you can call your school and ask, at least I have a reason why I did not get one.
