Has anyone done any of the Summer Internship Programs at Johns Hopkins?

I applied to all three for this summer and my application was selected as a waitlisted finalist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health division.

Has anyone ever experienced this? What does it mean to be a "waitlisted finalist" ?

Any input from past participants would greatly be appreciated!

I have two other acceptances from other summer programs....I'm not sure if I want to do this program.....

I participated in this program last summer. It was 100% the best experience I've ever had. I did one the summer before too and this one was by far the best of the two. They do some great stuff there on top of the research you do too (grad school admissions stuff, mock interview sessions, etc.). I was in pulmonary so I don't know much about the Public Health program, but I would imagine it is pretty much the same thing. Only disadvantage to being in Public Health is that you have to live in the dorms up by the undergrad campus. I would definitely recommend you do the Hopkins one.

What areas are the internships in? Do you do it during the summer, or would you take a semester off?

Congrats Omega! Hope you get in!! Those are very competitive and am sure it will be a GREAT experience

Hey everyone, I just heard back yesterday from the Hopkins Summer Internship Program, and I was wondering if anyone on here had been accepted this year/had participated in past years. I am in the Pulmonary and Critical Care research program and just wanted to know how the experience was (for those who did it) or if anyone wanted to chat before the summer (for those who are going to do it). Well, I'm pretty excited, and good luck to everyone who is hearing back from schools!

Yeah, I just heard back from the Hopkins Summer Internship Program as well. Now, I have no idea what to do because I was also accepted for a summer research program at Harvard. The Hopkins program will leave me with a bigger stipend (~$500-$700) more, but money isn't a significant motivating factor for me. Also, I was previously rejected from the Hopkins Summer Internship Program and now they decided to accept me and I wasn't even on a waitlist (weird?). Does anybody have any suggestions on what I should do? All I know right now is that I definitely want a repeat of this decision for med school....plz, lol.

Where did you guys find these opportunities?? Is there like a general site other than nsf sites that lists summer research internship programs??

Also, do you guys think I would be able to do such a program over the summer after my junior year? Or would most of my time have to be spent on applying to med schools and doing other stuff for it? We apply during the summer for med schools (generally) right? What did you guys do over the summer after junior year?

yo ipod01 i just did a google search for summer research programs at schools that i would be interested in attending for med/grad school (i.e. googled hopkins summer research program and this programs is what came up). i'm pretty sure you should be able to do these programs after your junior year. even though you might be applying to med schools, proper time management should allow you to still do summer research programs at the same time (hopefully, lol). anyway, here is a list provided by the aamc that may be of use to you as well.....http://www.aamc.org/members/great/summerlinks.htm.

Hey iPod- I'm doing the program summer after jr. year, and I'm not super worried about applying to med schools at the same time. It shouldn't be much different than if you held a regular job and needed to apply to schools (which a lot of people do). I'm hoping the experience will be good, and I'm excited to be able to do research with such a great school. If you're interested, you should definitely apply to summer programs next year!

Damn! Another banned, multi-year member? And, this time he's a donor?
