Hey all,

I'm sure this has been debated before, but I just did a search and came up with nada. Can anybody tell me pros and cons regarding Johns Hopkins vs UMD Emergency Medicine programs?

Thanks!

hey flipchick,

i have been wondering the same thing and started a thread earlier asking about them. " baltimore area programs" a couple people replied about maryland...but no hopkins info yet...check it out though, pelivar gave some good info

Familiar with both programs. Overall, UMD stonger but JHU better re: research.

To cut to the chase, neither program is worth moving to Baltimore are for.

Just my opinion... so save the hate mail folks.

SHOX is semi-right. Balto is kind of a crappy city, but being from the DC area you can live around DC (which is a great city) and commute to Balto no problemo. I think UMD is a great program, actually, their residents are very strong and got great job offers last year.

Q, DO

Check out my previous post. While baltimore has it's bad parts, it does grow on you. I'm not a city person so i live in the burbs outside of the city. I don't think Baltimore should keep you from considereing UMD or Hopkins.

Shox, that is saying a lot from someone who lives in Delaware!
😀

Thanks for responding!

I guess I'll have to see what I think of Baltimore when I'm on my interview...hopefully I'll get to see some of it outside of the hospitals.

Flipchick:

Are you interviewing at Baltimore in the coming week? I will be interviewing at Univ of Maryland on Tues.

Hey... cheap shot on Delaware buddy!

DE is in a nice central location in the mid-atlantic region... located near 4 major cities: The Big Apple, City of Brotherly Love, DC and Baltimore ("former syphilis capital of the US")... if 3 out of 4 major cities you live near are pretty cool that ain't bad!
