What are your thoughts on that? More specifically, I'm talking about EMRA, ACEP, and AAEM.

Students interested in EM were encouraged to join.

As someone who is 98% certain that I want to do EM, is joining worthwhile?

Thanks!

I heard it looks good on the CV for residencies...

Oh, are you a pre-med student or is that outdated? If so, it's probably needlessly early, and I think you need to be a med student to even qualify.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a soon-to-be 3rd year.

Getting real serious with this whole residency stuff!

EMRA has a bunch of resources that are really helpful for med students going into EM, plus there's a discounted membership fee for med students. I would definitely recommend it! 🙂

Also if you are able to go to a conference being a member is more than paid for. I went to ACEP a few years ago, as a med student EMRA/ACEP member it was like $75 for 4 days of great lectures.

Also if you are thinking of getting books you get a discount.

I think joining EMRA/ACEP and SAEM are both great ideas, I never joined AAEM. Not only does it look good on a CV, but there are awesome resources available.

EMRA- Scientific assembly is dirt cheap and I would highly encourage you to attend. ACEP news is a monthly magazine from the college with great articles and CME articles. They also send med students great pocket cards (sepsis, clinical prediction scorecard, etc.) and a book written for med students when you join

SAEM- There are multiple levels of membership, from free to more expensive. I did the low membership option that gave me access to EM Select, which is an awesome tool to organize yourself on the interview trail. They also have a monthly newsletter.

Feel free to PM me with more questions.

One of those organizations (I forgot which one) gives you a free book called "Road Map to Emergency Medicine: A Guide for Medical Students". It's a great book and well worth the fee. Read it well cause many of the articles are written by the program directors that will interview you 🙂 It's by far one of the most comprehensive resources that you can find for a student that is exploring the EM field.

That's EMRA...yea, that book is really helpful.

How do I get in on this free stuff? All I've gotten so far is a membership card and a magazine.
