Joining academia after residency

How does one typically become part of a faculty after ophth training? Do you usually stay where you train or are there venues for recruiting? Overall, how competitive is it to stay in academia (e.g. can one usually get a position in a particular geographic location)?

It's not difficult to get into academia. The pay is less than private practice. Jobs will depend if there are openings in your area of interest. You'll have to send your CV out and inquire about openings.
