Hey all,

Had a question, I am a member of my schools pre-pharm club, and I am volunteering for a local hospital and free pharmacy in addition to working for CVS. I was wondering if it might be worthwhile to join the APhA/APhA-ASP (I'm technically eligible for both, because I'm a technician and pre-pharmacy student at a school with a pharmacy program). Which would you join or would you join one at all? I feel like I've been lacking a good source of information outside of the forums about the profession and it would probably look good on top of everything else.

Is there anything else you would do to beef up the resume, so to speak? Any general advice would be swell.

Thanks!

At the current involvement level you described, I don’t think adding more activities will benefit you much.

If you’re trying to beef up anything, try for a leadership position in your pre-pharm club and keep your GPA high. But your tech experience is gold.

Joining a professional pharmacy org when you’re not a pharmacy student nor a pharmacist will make you look like a try-hard.

You probably don't need to since you're already doing so much. If you need more info, you should talk to some pharm students at your school. Or talk to your own pharmacist and see what info they can give you.

this may be a little offensive. I admire your energy and willingness to be good at what you do. But pharmacy is a long haul. Not that you should take it lightly but you are continuing going about it at this rate, you run the risk of burning yourself out before anything can materialize.

I completely understand! It might be best to just let off the throttle for a while now and focus on the more serious stuff during pharmacy school.

Thanks to everyone for your help!

Agree with the others, just focus on your job for now.

Work experience as a tech >>>>>>> joining organizations, volunteering, etc.

No offense, but you are overdoing it. I know many people who get in with 1-2 years at a CC without work/volunteer experience. I would focus on the long-term and just work on your job and enjoy your life outside of work/school. More experience at a company makes you more hireable after pharmacy school.
