just wondering what, if any, are the benefits of joining the APA? do most residents join? or is it more important for those in practice? the website says as a resident, your first year of subscription is free, and after that its 80 bucks a year ... thoughts?

25% discount on APPA published books for members in training, and for eligibility for travel grants to conferences, I think you need to be an APA member, also 70% discount on registration for members in training at the national meeting in May.

Joining the APA got me membership into the NJPA.

This in turn opened up a lot of local oppurtunities for me. I've met several psychiatrists who are big in their local area and have joined committees where I'm working with them side by side. This definitely will help me if I want to work in NJ and opens up a lot of doors.

The NJPA also informs docs of several workshops it offers such as suboxone liscencing.

hey, about how long did it take before you got something in the mail from them? i applied for medical student membership about a month ago and have not heard a word. i called and they said something about processing taking up to 45 days sometimes. i'm just hoping it didn't get lost because i had to go get the dept chair of psych to sign the application for me...
