Is anyone out there is a joint Clinical/JD program, or know anyone who is... or has graduated from one?

I'd seriously considered law before deciding on psychology but it never occurred to me to combine the two 😳 . This is not something I'm going to jump into, of course, but I'm definetly interested in learning more about the option. So, if anyone has any insights, please share.

useful for forensic line or being a psych attorney. idk anyone who's dunnit though

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has an excellent joint clinical PhD/JD program.

The University of Denver also has a very good joint clinical PsyD/JD program.

Also joint clinical PhD/JD program at University of Arizona.

I looked into these programs a little when I was applying because of the populations I work with and my interest in psych policy. But for me, I didn't think there was much I could do with both degrees that I couldn't do with just the PhD. I was 100% on the PhD part but maybe 20% on the JD so it didn't seem worth it for me.

I guess, like you said, you just have to think it through and think about what careers you could want out of school and if those careers would actually require both degrees or if you could get away with one or the other. (And don't forget to factor in just how long you'll be in school getting both.) Good luck!! 🙂

There is a combined Forensic Psychology and Law program in Simon Fraser University up here in Canada as well. It's an 8-year program (on average) and fiercely competitive, but I heard SFU has a great psychology department.

PGSP in Palo Alto does too.

Thanks for the info everyone. I've also contacted a few schools that don't have official JD/Clin Joint programs but are willing to let students design their own, so that's an option. Now I just have to get accepted....

I'm entering Univ of AZ's this year

What exactly motivates you to earn both a JD and a PhD?

Gaining acceptance into these programs is extremely hard. You must be accepted to both the law school and the clinical phd program SEPARATELY. Meaning you are looking at a GRE score of above 1200, LSAT above 160, GPA above 3.5, amazing LoRs and plenty of research experience combined with a good reason to study both fields.

I believe admission was offered to 2 students at U of AZ this year and last I heard the other student turned it down to go to Univ of Nebraska-Lincoln since thats where they lived, so I am the only one entering.

The usual acceptance numbers are 1-3 per school, per year. Well, at least for the funded/respectable programs.
