Does Jones reagent CrO3 make a primary alcohol into an aldehyde or a carboxylic acid? Ive see different sources showing different things so i have no clue.....🙁

It should be carboxylic acid. I believe the only thing that makes a primary ROH an aldehyde is PCC.

Hey thanks..yes it is...i dont know why i didnt do it before but i just looked it up on the internet lol and its a carboxy acid. Thanks for your help!

Jones reagent is the same thing as KMNO4, although I dont think that it makes diols if cold and dilute.

all of kaplan's sources say otherwise...it says cold dilute KMnO4 makes diols out of alkenes...and hot KMnO4 makes carboxylic acid. Is this not true or what?
