I know what a lot of you are thinking (this guy is a ****-for-brains, you can't ask questions like this, etc . . .). All I want is your honest oppinion. I am not a very good judge of myself so I ask you to use your judgement to tell me if I am an average, above average, excellent, or exceptional candidate for MD school.

Here are my stats:
Entering Senior Year w/103 hrs. (will spend 5 years in undergrad)
3.73 GPA w/ 3.65 science GPA
Zoology Biomedical Sciences Major
Chemistry Minor
Honors College Student (w/honors classes met)

No MCAT yet but SAT was 1340 w/ math 20 pts higher than verbal

Resident Advisor w/ many Extracurriculars

Past two summers was a Research Intern 30hrs/week

Shadowed doctors for 1 semester in US, 1 month in India and two weeks in England.

I am not trying to toot my own horn, I just want YOUR honest oppinion of my candidacy.

Thanks!

You'd definitely be in the running. Just apply to 10-15 schools.

::sigh::: so young, and so much hope....

You're doing AWESOME at school. Keep doing what you're doing, and you'll most likely get into the top 3. I look back at my college career and think so many things I could have done differently; you're in an awesome position--good grades AND ECs. With a good MCAT (30 and above) I know most schools will be excited to have you. Just a few suggestions, not saying you HAVE to do them, but this is stuff I've seen all over SDN that has helped in applications--

1. you said you do research, try and get your name on a paper.
2. start looking at people to write you an LOR. Make them start NOW!! They can always update it later.
3. CLINICAL! CLINICAL!! CLINICAL!!! There are schools that will say, "well, sure you've done research, but how close have you been to having patient contact?" I know you have this already, but a few months is not enough..do more, it can only help you.
4. ENJOY THE JOURNEY! So many of us get caught up in getting into the best schools that are only "top ten," that they miss out on a lot....doctors are doctors are doctors. They heal ill people that need care, whether they are from Peurto Rico (no offense) or Trinidad or Hopkins.

That's all from an old folkie on SDN. 🙂

Thank you for the advise Tweetie! It is very helpful, and I will take it all into consideration.

Oh yeah - I think I was mentioned in an American Chemical Society Pub! I have been meaning to put that in my resume.

You're doing great for now... but it's impossible to say for sure until you get your MCAT scores.

Good luck 🙂

Yeah, I'm not particularly bothered by these questions...but posters should wait until they have MCAT scores. The SAT is virtually meaningless.

There's always DO School Beoz. . . sorry to hear about those #s. . .

 😛 😀

Honestly I was considering DO school if I can't get in an MD school.

Tweetie - I noticed you said I would "most likley get in the top 3" Ummm . . . are you just yankin my crank?

Tweetie - I noticed you said I would "most likley get in the top 3" Ummm . . . are you just yankin my crank?•••••I second Tweetie's recommendations, but definitely question the "top 3" comment. Even if you have a 4.0 and 40+ MCAT you STILL can't ever be sure about getting into a top TEN school, nevermind top THREE!

Tweetie - I noticed you said I would "most likley get in the top 3" Ummm . . . are you just yankin my crank?•••••LOL, you got me! Although I was not yankin your WHAAAAATTT (??), I was trying to be positive and tell you that you're on the right track. True, you can't know which school you can get into given the best of grades and application, yet, you have a higher chance. That is what I meant. The "top 3" comment was an exaggeration of what I was trying to imply--that you have high stats, which are good enough for a LOT of top schools (if that indeed, is what you want. In my opinion, there are few people on ths forum that are *too* hung up on getting into a top 10 which defeats the whole purpose behind WHY you want to go to medical school; hence, heed my advice on enjoying the journey whle you're getting there).
